We visited Bolinao during the low season, it was very quiet everywhere and very few tricycles, so we walked the 2km from our resort Cindy's cave. When we arrived, very hot and dusty, we were greeted by very friendly locals who explained to us about the cave and collected the entrance fee php50 per person. There was no electricity at the time so we collected some torches and were taken on a very short tricycle ride to the entrance, we were the only visitors and had the whole cave to ourselves.
There are a few steps down to the entrance to the cave, then it is like entering another world. Inside the cave was very dark, even with our torches and the air in the cave was cool and damp, very refreshing after our long, hot walk. The pool inside the cave is crystal clear, very cool and refreshing. The water was very shallow by the steps and you can walk across the pool to the other side of the cave, the water was about waist high, so deep enough to swim and shallow enough to walk. Our guide was keen to tell us the history of the cave, they had found Chinese pottery in there dating back to the 12th Century and we could see corals in the cave from when the whole area was below seawater.
After an hour or so relaxing in the cool water, enjoying the natural beauty and peace inside the cave, we made our way out to take the short tricycle ride back to the road. On the way out our guide wanted to refund the entrance fee we had paid as there was no electricity to provide lights in the cave, we thought this very kind and what wonderful people but we insisted on paying as we had such a great time visiting the cave and we enjoyed having only the torch light. The kindness continued as he offered to take us back to our resort in his tricycle, this was great as we weren't looking forward to the walk back. We tried to pay for the ride but our guide insisted that he would not take any money, he just wanted to help us out and make our visit as good as possible.
We really enjoyed our visit to Cindy's cave and would highly recommend, a really interesting cave with so much history and natural beauty.
