My wife & I booked this hotel for a single night so we could visit our new Grandson. We booked a standard double room online as we could only stay for one night, so imagine our delight when we arrived to check in to be told we had been given a free upgrade to the Lady Hamilton Deluxe Super King room! A perfect start to our stay.
We entered our room to be greeted with a stunning view out across the Dee Estuary across to the Welsh hills. It was a glorious sunny afternoon - what could be better!
The bed was huge - it could easily accommodate a family of 4!! The bathroom was almost brand spanking new, with a bath, separate shower, 2 hand basins and a loo .. plus there was ample room to swing a very large cat, something we don't tend to do very often, but it is nice to know we could have done. There was ample room in the main bedroom, although there were no wardrobes or chest of drawers, there are ample storage units for clothes etc. A large window seat enabled us to sit and watch the birds fly by, an excellent addition to the room.
Large TV, kettle, hairdryer etc are all included as per all rooms these days, along with free Wi-Fi.
We ventured out for a stroll and found the Boathouse at the far end of the 'seafront' .. a nice pint of Piffle was enjoyed there in the sunshine. An amble back brought us to the Red Lion, where a pint of 'Robinsons' was enjoyed in a real old fashioned type pub before the question of food arose. The Ship boasted a splendid menu, but we really didn't want a full meal, so opted for Fish & Chips from the local fryer on the front - we sat on the wall and enjoyed those as the sun set. We gave the designer style pub at the other end of the parade a pass, called the Quay it looked like any other newly built pub and we have those in Devon!
It was back to the Ship then for a couple of excellent pints of 'Trappers hat' .. enjoyed outside on the small decking area, where we watched the moon rise over the estuary before returning to our room for the night.
We both enjoyed a sound nights sleep in the ginormous bed, before partaking in the excellent breakfast provided. Not a buffet style breakfast, but your order is taken and freshly cooked before being served at your table - just like a breakfast should be.
All in all we had a really enjoyable stay at the Ship; and will certainly be booking in there again when we next travel 'ooop north' to visit our Grandson! The trouble is, after experiencing the Lady Hamilton suite first time around - it would be nice to have it again!!
A room with a view over the Dee estuary is a must!
