So... My boyfriend and I stopped off to meet up with family on the way back home from Cornwall. The suggestion of RC was made- which I personally thought was great. I love his programme and am a bit of a foodie. They don't take bookings but quickly found us a table (for 8 of us). The menu looked delicious, lots of choice.
However it was down hill from there. Without going into too much detail, they brought the wrong starter, which wasn't a massive problem, but took ages to arrive. We then waited over an hour for main courses to be told our order had not been processed. We were told "5 minutes" but actually it turned into 16!!My appetite went, but the mackerel was ok when it did finally arrive. Shame the same can't be said for my boyfriend's lamb which was cold, yes, not warm but cold.
The manageress was apologetic, the boyfr sent his lamb back and went without an alternative as by then, he was fed up.
It's all very well trading on your TV success, but make sure your offering does not fall below standard. It's not particularly cheap and we were looking forward to a dessert but decided against it. Ok, so we didn't pay a penny and were offered a complimentary return visit, but I will never return. Thoroughly disappointed. Train your staff. (And eat at Rick Stein in Padstow which by contrast was fantastic- well trained waiting staff and great food)
