for seventy ringgit (per person) a day you get a crappy mosquito filled room, there are two toilets/showers that don't work! wouldn't even be hard to fix, but no one seems to care. besides gross bathrooms service is terrible. divemasters are arrogant, no one seems to be in charge. go to scuba junkie for 20 ringgit more (90per person per day) you get to stay in a really nice bungalow! and you are close to the beach. we stayed there our last night, people were nice place was nice! there is also a place there called uncle changs didn't stay there but might be another option. billabong is the last option! book early, if the other places fill up you'll end up here!

We returned from Mabul Island a month ago. The stay at Billabong Scuba is very basic (with mobile fan, shared bathroom and toilet, but good food) and only suitable for divers. It would be a good experience for city people like us to experience a 'homestay' atmosphere where we so used to a resort or hotel facilities. In fact, i guess it was a summer holidays in Europe and the whole house full with foreigner, except us.

The group of divers to this dive station is huge and we been there for 3 days 2 nights, all rooms are fully taken and even some got to stayed at the other unit of the 'kampung rumah' (which I think is related to Billabong operation too).

The group of diver is too big, about 12 - 14s for each dive, but they are headed by 4 diver masters for each excursion. Most of our time wasted in waiting for other diver who do photo shooting underwater whereby ourselves only doing a leisure dive. Moreover, the visibility of the water is poor during the month of August.

We have a very personal treat by the manager in charge at Billabong. We traveled with young kids and they managed to lend us 2 life jackets for our kids during our stay for the ease of snorkeling. The ride of the speed boat is very bumpy and there isn't life jacket available for all passengers ( i think is the same for other boat operator too).

At night we brought out kids to walk around the beach with torch light, even explored into other nearby resorts at Mabul island. People on the island are friendly and helpful. Snorkeling near Mabul-Kepalai resort will never an ending for us.

I would like to say choosing a 'homestay' for your holidays in Mabul Island would be the most economy way (but not recommended for a family with young children). Those pricey resorts would serve better if cost is not a concern.

Thanks to Billabong Scuba.
