“Nice place to chill but a bit dated”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013 via mobile

We enjoyed our stay At Waka Nusa particularly it's proximity to the sea and wonderful nature sounds. It's a simple place so come with that expectation.

Pool area in particular is dated and needs to upgraded. Restaurant was fine and staff friendly. Beach is very scenic but hard to swim in due to coral and boats moored there.

We were unsure of exactly what to expect as we had read very mixed reviews about this resort and might not have picked it as a first option on Lembongan. However we had limited options to choose from in a package deal for flights and accommodation.
We loved the sandy tropical grounds and the location of our lanai at the back of the main compound was private and for the most part quiet. The only 'unwelcome' noise was the occassional laughter and music from another accommodation nearby. Any other noises were those of normal village life, yes there were roosters and the occasional dog bark and motorbikes but nothing out of the ordinary for a Indonesian village location.
The lanai were lovely. Clean, good plumbing and electricity, hot water and aircon. We only had very light rain for the 3 nights we were there so can't comment about what happens during heavy rain. No unwelcome creepy crawlies and I noticed the grounds were being sprayed regularly to keep bugs at bay.
Food definitely wasn't a highlight. The location of the restaurant was great and we loved sitting watching the local 'fish market' on the beach as we ate breakfast. The young waitresses were lovely but inexperienced and clearly weren't receiving the supervision and training they needed. The main meals were a real disappointment . We really expected great seafood dishes but we didn't find them here or at any other restaurant at Mushroom Bay. However the cocktails were great!
My friend wasn't well during our stay there so we didn't do as much exploring as we had intended and spent most of our time on the beachfront chairs watching all the activity on the beach. We really enjoyed it all and for quiet time moved into the pool area.
Despite it being high season there were usually only a few people in the main area except for one day when a large group came for lunch. We went back to our lanai for a nap and a read...no problem.
My free massage wasn't great but my friend had a better one from a lovely woman who was delightful and seemed to be the assistant manager and provided great service in a number of roles.
In summary, we really enjoyed our stay at Waka Nusa and 3 nights felt about right. The staff were lovely but restaurant staff are not getting the leadership they deserve. We enjoyed people watching on the beach and solitude of the lanai area. Food was the biggest disappointment here and elsewhere in Mushroom Bay. Probably won't stay at Waka Nusa again because great food is high priority on my holiday list and the lanai price is quite expensive for 1 person.

Room Tip: There are very few lanai in the main compound and are all very attractive , private and quiet.

Walking along the mushroom beach, we saw the nice looking restaurant of the waka nusa hotel. As it was happy hour time and the prices seemed fair, we decided to have our dinner there.

So we chose our food from the happy hour menu. We ordered 2 cokes, a tomato bruschetta, a portion spicy wedges and 2 pizzas. After waiting 20 minutes, finally the beverages arrived. After waiting an other 25 minutes we finally got the appetizers. While the bruschetta tasted good, the potato wedges were just a joke. This 8 little slices wouldn't even feed the skinny cats here in Lembongan. Moreover the weren't spicy. The top of the evening were the pizzas. Instead of a pizza as written on the menu, we got just 5 little slices on a plate that had nothing in common with a pizza.

Talking to the waiter, he explained that the portions are so tiny because we ordered from the happy hour menu where the prices are cheaper. In our eyes it is not the sense of an happy hour serving smaller portions to a smaller price. At least a note on the menu indicating smaller portions for happy hour would be honest.

During the whole evening the service was completely unmotivated to serve us. The only word the said to us was "finished?" like they couldn't wait to see us leaving.

Never ever!!!!

This is our third trip to Waka Nusa Resort (now Nusa Bay Resort) and we still love it. No, the villas arent on the beach, but you just step outside your villa and walk a few metres and there it is! Breakfast is my favourite part of the day where your table is set up right next to the beautiful view of the beach. Staff are very welcoming and friendly. A wonderful place to meet our friends from Australia. We will be back. Stephen and Jenny

We spent the second time at Waka Nusa and believe it is the best spot of Bali. Lembongan island is still so cultural and in its own way unique that makes every stay at Waka Nusa to a real holiday for us. There are only 10 rooms in total, you can dine on the beach having your foot stuck in the beautiful beach sand and just enjoy being an islander - living very close to this wonderful and very natural people. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the food very tasty. For us it is this homely privacy Waka Nusa can offer which makes all the difference. You can relax there and are not bothered by hundred of people all the time. You also will not feel just like a number in one of this giant hotels in Bali. The hotel is not the newest anymore but clean and tidy and really a secret spot. (until now :) )

Room Tip: any room is good

We spent three days in Waka Nusa. Mushroom Bay is the most beautiful beach in the isle. The very positive point of the hotel is the restaurant. Cooking is absolutely delicious and refined. The quality / price rate is very good : each evening there is a special menu with starter, main course and desert for only 100 000 rp (without government taxes). The place is quiet and relaxing. At the end of August no more tourists and only 9 bungalows. Rooms are good, cleaned every morning during you are having breakfast. Never had a problem with hot water for the shower. The staff are very helpful and all the time available.
We have really appreciated our stay.

an amazing place with shame management makes terrible memories about our staying.
no bungalows are facing the sea while restaurant & pool are in front of the beach. not bad, but:

Bungalow:
1) old (15 years at least any renovation but air condition)
2) salty water for shower &&& but they provide you with 2 little bottles (350ml) of mineral water to brush your teeth
3) ventilation net broken hence any insect/little animals are really welcome to visit you in your room any time (why they give you so much mosquito killers &&& if they can simply repair the nets? Once we highlighted the problem on 1 net, they took 1 day to repair it... but... there are 4 nets broken ... my mistake!!! my mistake... I've showed only one of them... it is not obvious that if I want 1 to be repaired means that I'd like all to be repaired?!?
4) NOISE!!! TERRIBLE NOISE!!! I was scared when checking I've seen on my pillow a set of ear blocker... but there was not any night that I didn't wear it. a part of the hundreds pigeons squeaks, the fighting cooks (of the neighbors), ... the big Petrol Engine for the electricity!!! yeap!!! I've just traveled for about 16hr to escape from developed countries typical noise to have worst one here
5) water for shower: not only salty but or boiling & cold... and you are not the one who can decide... yeap! you open the hot and it goes from boiling to cold without you can control at all...

Service:
1) breakfast: "I'd like to have yogurt & cereals":- "Yes sure" & they bring you 1 spoon of yogurt with 1 big big pot of cereals... 1th you wonder how you can mix with this little quantity of yogurt all this cereals & why this waste of cereals ... than you realize: the cereals are spoiled... hence I've decided to ask for clarification & they come back with a new small pot of cereals saying: "...sorry it was open box...now is new"... "is this ok?"
1,1) dinner: in the menu "half grilled chicken" and I' ve received 1 chicken wing & leg. a portion not enough for baby (I don' want to say more)
2) massage: they worst massage ever...the girls where like land workers.. at half massage I've stopped the massage & I decided to go rest to calm down the anger they caused me
3) boats: regardless the amazing spot where the resort is placed .... the whole beach is overcrowded by boats riding up & down, loading & uploading people, till the beach with disgusting petrol smell..don't let me add other comment about how they are killing their own landscape & environment
4) Scooter: my question "I'd like to rent a scooter, please the newest as possible". the answer of the manager: "sure, all new!!! ahahah". I got a destroied scooter with no breaks not mirrors ... no shock absorber (in this Island it is a must coz the road are completely destroied
5) ping pong: rakets left under the rain... hence you can imagine how you can play
6) at least you can say you are in a place with max 15people... you can rest, you can have the max service as you like, you can enjoy all the facility experiencing a very one to one services... NO, no at all!!! they are somehow "businessman", they rentout the pool, the boat for the trip, the beach for daily tourism... we called it like "Daily Invasion" & we had to took our towels & run away to get few spaces of peace. Amazing this type of daily tourist the mess they can do... the were even able to bring their Canoa/Kayak in to the pool and row within a 10 square meter pool with all the professionals tools (like they are training for the next Olympia Games)..Unbelievable the resort management let them do it:

Price
thanks to the exceptional offer of EXPEDIA [they declared a saving of 33%] we have been charged more than 100€/night while the average of the Island price for similar (or let me say better accommodation) is about 65k rupies/night, which is about 47€/night, less than half.
We can tell that because we traveled & asked to all the nicest resort of the island. So, book from here!!!
