“Luxurious, yet lacking some personal touches”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2014

We stayed at Indiana for 3 nights.
Room:
The room we stayed in was clean, modernly furnished, had a lovely outdoor sitting area. At night it was quite quiet and the bed is really comfortable. Room service is once a day, yet my complaint would be that they came to clean your room even if you were heading back to it as they were getting started, rather than waiting for you to go to breakfast or out on a tour. Also personal touches like turn-down service, or local snacks on your pillow would go a long way to giving the resort a more personal touch - as is it was very "european" and hands off feeling - i.e. they gave you your space (almost gave it a 4 star for that, but it was exceptional). Room had high quality linens and towels and was all we could want in a room.

Resort:
There are two pools, one that is near the restaurant and one in the back area. The restaurant one has a view of the ocean, and the other does not, yet the other was more popular since you weren't bothering restaurant patrons. The pools do close rather early (7 or 8 if i remember). There is a bar near the non-restaurant pool. Clean and lots of good sitting areas. Mostly adults (we didn't see very many kids staying at the resort). The resort staff will help set you up with a motorbike for rent. One tip is if you have laundry, you can walk it over to the laundry service (near where the motorbikes is) and pay by the kilo vs going through the hotel (much cheaper).

Restaurant:
We ate here 2 of the 3 nights - phenomenal food and we love food! Good wine too. Prices are reasonable and all food is made in the open kitchen on site. Pasta & Gnocci were both amazing! The chef (Clement) was really friendly and made a point to come talk to us both nights and during the day when we were wandering round the resort. His friendliness and welcoming attitude definately merits the 5 stars above. Breakfast was always good too - the fruit plate was large and selections were definitely better than average breakfast options. We also sat in the beachfront bar area and had drinks which were good. The resort is right on the beach and next to the main strip of restaurants on the island.
The spa at the hotel was good - not great. Very noisy because of the location (kids running by), but believe they are building a new one in a quieter area by the pool.

Island:
Definitely if you can rent a motorbike and go all over the island and the neighboring island of Nusa Cenida (sp?). There is a lot to see and you will want to do it in a few days worth.

Room Tip: Rooms towards the front of the resort are more convenient - ours was room was #2 and was close to th...

We found this restaurant on our first night on the island and were so impressed we returned 3 times!! The price is expensive by comparison to the rest of the island but the food has no comparison! The food was presented beautifully and tasted fantastic. We were also impressed by the service and that the owner took time to speak to all the guests as well. Finally I would personally recommend the Bali cider as crisp and refreshing drink to go with the gorgeous food!

We just stayed on Nusa Lembongan for 3 nights in a private villa and went one night to Indiana Kenanga for a dinner! Excellent food, top quality and really big portions (I had 2 starters and couldn't finish both of them!!!). We had a table in the sand...nice holiday feeling.
The French Chef is a very nice guy, came to the guest tables and had a chat with everybody. It is a big challenge to create a French Fine Dining on a small island like this, give that they need to ship over everything from Bali! Compliments to the Kitchen and the very attentive and friendly F&B Service. Ps: we came next morning for a breakfast, which was unfortunately not as fantastic as the dinner...We will certainly be back soon!

This place advertised itself as having luxury French design and 3 Start Michelin quality food... this could not be further from the truth. There is nothing luxurious about this place except its prices. The rooms, in a hotel by a beautiful ocean, are dark and windowless. The decor is tacky and oversized. But sadly the most disappointing was the food. We had dinner at approximately 7pm, and by this time half of the dishes on the menu where no longer available. We had to settle for our third choice of mains: our shared crab entrée was bland and watery, my fish for main was overcooked and dry, and my partner's lamb was borderline overcooked. The desserts where nothing to write home about, with my "homemade waffle" soggy and curdled cream, more like curdled milk. We would not have been so critical of the food, but for its claim of being created by a chef with 10 years experience in 3 Start Michelin restaurants, to be fair the "acclaimed" chef was not there on our visit.

What was most embarrassing for this hotel and restaurant, and most disappointing for us was the worst breakfast we have ever been served in any hotel stay. For a 3 Start Michelin restaurant and $200+ a night stay the breakfast options where poor... and the instant coffee supplied unacceptable, especially considering the hotel bar visible from breakfast tables had an expresso machine. Worst of all the egg and toast option, consisted of cold toast of white sliced bread and a poached egg that tasted like it had been boiled in vinegar. We would not recommend this hotel for a stay on such a beautiful island... and if you do visit the restaurant, expect more local cafe quality and not Michelin quality.

Was not very impressed with service rooms were too hot even though air cons were on 16degrees . Not very friendly staff. Location was good. Never able to have calls answered if you were ringing reception.

After a mix-up with our booking the Manager decided to honour the original booking for the Luxury Villa despite the massive price difference and we got unbelievably lucky. Proper luxury and great service, it was perfect for everything we needed and we felt proper spoilt to start the New Year

Apologies for the long review all, however, If there is one review you scan through - it should be this one.

The bad:

AMENITIES AND INFRASTRUCTURE:

Air conditioning:
If you like to come back to a cool room or get a good night"s sleep - then do not stay here. The villas have tiny air conditioners that simply cannot cool the sheer space of each villa (they have high roofs). When we walked in on the first day it was like a sauna. We put the air con on for an hour yet it didn't change anything - so we tried the fan but all that did was circulate the hot air. I complained to the front desk and they sent a worker to press a few buttons on the AC remote, mumble something - then walk away - never to be seen again. Nothing had changed, so I approached the front desk again. This time the reception clerk told me he would get an engineer to check the unit. 2 hours later and I was asked to revisit the room to check the temperature. Nothing had changed and no sign of any engineer. It was at this point that the clerk admitted the villas were hot but he'd show me another room that would be cooler. I checked that- and it was the same deal. However my fiancé thought we may as we'll move as it might be slightly better. This is when I gave up. We stayed for 3 hot nights and resorted to dragging the mattress into the ground - below the AC unit - to catch any slightly cool air before it escaped to the ceiling. We were also only given one room key, which had the swipe card that powers the room. We ended up detaching the swipe card from the key ring and just left the AC on 24/7 for 3 days. Testament to how warm the rooms were, this still didn't make the rooms cool. They were definitely more bearable but still not up to adequate standards. I would've checked out the first night however I had already paid in advance.

Iron: the villas are not equipped with an iron or ironing board. We waited half an hour for a sole iron to be delivered - fresh in its box - to our room. When we asked whether they had an ironing board, they responded with 'no'.

Hair dryer: the hair dryer in the villas are tiny and are completely useless. If I'd actually tried to blow dry my hair with it, it would have taken a couple of hours. I did bring my own hairdryer however the power outlet fried it. This was my fault as I knew my hair dryer didn't have a voltage switch, however, I didn't have any problems elsewhere in Bali!

Soap: the villas are offered just one bar of soap.

Telephone:
I am not sure why there is a telephone in the room when you cannot make outside calls. The contact a salon or snorkelling business - you have to go to front desk. This is a painstaking process as, while the staff are nice enough, they speak broken English (I don't expect a cleaner or gardener to be able to speak English- but do expect those manning a reception desk to be able to understand simple requests.

Toilets:
The toilets are connected to a 'bio system'. Usually that does not flush unless you hold the button down for a minute. Quite annoying in the middle of the night. And a few occasions the toilet refused to flush completely.

SERVICE:
Bar staff: I don't expect or enjoy being waited an hand and foot, however, the service is pretty lack lustre. When sitting at the pool and ordering a few drinks- you'd think the staff would ask whether you'd like another or bring your drinks to the deckchair. I wouldn't expect this everywhere but do expect such standards at accommodation that sells itself as 4 star and 'luxury'.

Breakfast: They served cold eggs up to us with the yolks way too runny.

Pool: Both pool areas had people lounging in the scare pool-side deck chairs that we're not staying at the hotel. I overheard a conversation between a couple and a bar staff member - in which the couple were told that they could use the pool area if they bought drinks. They bought a tea... I don't believe luxury hotels should operate like a community pool or disadvantage their paying guests.

Cleaning: room turn down did not occur each day until around midday or 1pm- usually just when we had returned from a morning adventure and wanted to freshen up.

The good:
Restaurant: The French restaurant at this hotel is very good and deserves the good feedback regularly found on TripAdvisor. Unfortunately, I think some positive reviews about this hotel have been skewed by the quality on offer at the restaurant. A restaurant does not make a hotel.

Crepes: the crepes from the pool area are delicious!

Wifi: great wifi - it was very fast and accessible.

SUMMARY:
I would not recommend this hotel, as it is certainly not 4 star and not worth $270 a night, nor does it live up to its 'luxury' branding. I could live with all of the hotel's transgressions except the inadequate air conditioning. Unfortunately, for a hotel that seems to spend a lot of money on good quality restaurant produce and chef - the main hotel has been done on the cheap.

Room Tip: If you don't mind ineffective air con, stay here.
