“Would be great with a bit of TLC”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

We all see things differently but here goes .Positives are great pools great location right on beach ,we stayed in an ocean view villa huge rooms nice and bright.Negatives curtains in rooms are too small for windows, door handles falling off,no hot water for two days, mould everywhere in bathroom we had outside bathrooms, toilets didnt flush properly and were falling apart, sheets not changed for 4 days dirty the day we arrived, towels also not changed and dirty as well.Never left any toilet paper either,Breakfast worst Ive ever had in Bali. The place would be great if they took a little more pride and fixed things that were broken and changed dirty sheets ect .Staff are nice but really really laid back, didnt seem to care or want to do much.Needs TLC

Room Tip: The ocean view villas are larger and brighter than the ones scattered around the grounds ,but they a...

We recently spent 3 nights at the Tanis Villas. The location is great, 10m from the beach and the staff are incredibly helpful. However, the hotel itself really needs some work, even some bleach in the bathroom and a coat of paint would make a massive difference. We stayed in a Garden Villa and the room was very run down. The bathroom was not as clean as it could be. The bedroom was very spacious and clean and the beds were very comfortable. We did have to ask for clean towels but as soon as we did they were replaced immediately. The WiFi is free and pretty good.

We had planned on taking Scoot or similar onwards to Bali but Tanis Villas have their own boat, "The Tanis Express" which runs direct from Mushroom Bay to Sanur. I would definitely recommend this service, the price was comparable to the other companies and the boat seemed to be new and clean, it departed promptly and transfers etc. were all well organised.

The coastal walk along to Jungut Batu is worth doing.

We tried most of the restaurants on the beach and all were fine but nothing special. Following a search of the forums on this site we tried Alam Nusa Huts (walk up the small road in the middle of the beach about 30m, it's on your right) and we would 100% recommend eating there, best food we had and very reasonable.

I debated about giving this hotel a 3 or a 4 out of 5, it really does need to raise it standards, however, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

if your the sort of person that doesn't care about cleanliness then you could probably stay here.
because the location is fantastic and the staff are extremely friendly.. But the rooms are terrible. gaps in the roof .. mini bar was full of rusted old coke bottles and bintangs.. looked like no one had pulled a drink out of it in 10 years.. bed was one of those foam mattresses very hard. But the real problem was the bathroom!! toilet seat was so old it literally looked like it had washed in from 6 months out at sea.. the shower didnt work properly we got one short bursts of boiling hot for about 15 seconds then it was cold.. the sink and mirror and bath were all dirty with plenty of rust.. It might have been a nice place to stay 15 years ago but not now!

We were booked to stay at Tanis Villas for 3 nights but left after one. It is located on Mushroom Bay which is a lovely beach although the only way to get around the rest of the island is by bicycle, so difficult to go elsewhere for dinner.

The hotel itself is completely run-down and aged. When we stayed there were only 3 rooms occupied, and from other reviews it seems this is the case almost year-round, which can be positive if you are seeking isolation but can be very eerie at night.

The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, probably because they have so few guests! Our room was a sea view 'deluxe' although there was nothing deluxe about it. Felt like no one had stayed in it for months, there was blood and stains on the bedding and mosquito nets. If you are not kept awake by the cockrels/dog next door, there were large gaps between the walls and ceiling, which meant we had a bat flying around the room all night and no way to alert the management. Definitely do not recommend, I couldn't wait to leave

Tanis Villas is in Mushroom Bay - which is not the "main" part of town (where you come in by boat) but a 10-ish minute ride away from there. The staff is very accommodating, and my room was clean. Wifi reception was excellent. The breakfast (included) is good as well. Mushroom Bay is a good location- it's close enough to town, but also within walking distance to some very nice sunset views, and also the Beach Club at Sandy Bay (great food) - although numerous people will also be quick to ask, "transport?"

From what I've read of the hotels on this island from other travelers, most of them are a bit dated (probably better than tearing down all of the remaining trees to build new hotels? just check out a satellite view of the island..) This one fits the "dated" description.. the shower head had clogs; the air-con controller wouldn't work.. but it's nice, and it worked, and I had a great stay on the island with them. I was happy with Tanis and would go back.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms - you can SEE the ocean, but it's not really on the ocean. Ocean view = your ro...

We stayed in Tanis Villas for 5 nights. And I must say that at first we weren't quite convinced but in the end we grew into really loving this place. And the main reason for that is that it makes you feel like you truly are on a tropical small island and you can't expect it to have all the comforts - if you do expect ... then what are you doing on this island anyway? :)

The rooms are in private villas and they all have outdoor bathrooms. At first when we arrived we weren't too happy with our first villa as it was very dark and so we asked to see other villas. Then we moved to villa Duyung1 which was quite nice.

The outdoor bathroom is also quite enjoyable although in some villas the taps seemed a bit old.
And be ready to see some geckos here and there. We had no problem with them as - after all - it is a tropical island :). On one evening two very big geckos had climbed into our room. They were making kind of chirping sound. Anyway, as we tried to avoid to scare them and cause panic, we just left the room for 15 minutes. When we returned, they were gone. So usually there's no need to drag anything/anyone out :)

The hotel grounds are beautiful, with lush nature and big garden. There are also 2 refreshing pools. As its on Mushroom bay, the sea is very close ( you basically step from the hotel grounds directly on the beach sand) and in the evenings when the tide is lower, its good to swim there. You can rent a motorbike/scooter from Tanis Villas - we rented it for all 4 days and used it everyday as the distances between other locations and beaches are a bit far for walking in this heat.

The breakfast in not buffet and there isn't that big of a choice what to order. If you do want to eat bigger breakfasts then you need to pay. But I can tell you that in the heat you won't feel that hungry really.

If Tanis would replace some old worn out towels and would fix the taps in bathroom, then I would give it "excellent" rating. I hope they will do it soon!

There are couple of nice and simple restaurants on the beach but we recommend going for some nights to the restaurant at Sunset beach - it gets pretty lively there in the evening and the view is beautiful!

And the staff is of course very friendly in Tanis Villas!

I have to be fair to all concerned & say that my partner & I are sometimes used to standards of a higher level, but we have stayed on Lembongan now each year for the past 8 years & at Tanis Villas 3 times. We have stayed in a few different venues of which value for money left a lot to be desired (Bali Hai are a massive rip off with declining service standards). Tanis Villas for our second stay was probably a little disappointing to say the least having brought friends from Oz on their first visit to Bali.

Whilst it was nice & relaxing for them we were a little annoyed that the venue was empty yet we were given the substandard single rooms which are majestic by Lembonagan standards, but leave a lot to be desired from Bali standards. The larger twin share rooms were oopen and airing & yet we had to walk past these empty rooms constantly. The rooms we were 'assigned' were small & very basic, not even security devices for your valuables STILL. This was an issue we raised the last 2 times we visited yet still not addressed.

The staff are friendly enough, if prompted yet it appears to be decreasing each time we visit (not disimilar to Bali Hai) & is the reason we have stayed in a few venues on the island.

Drainage of effluent next to the villas entrance really needs to be fixed. Walking through this to reach any other venue in Mushroom bay is not a pleasant experience during daylight, let alone negotiatiate at night!

A real shame & embarrassment for us as we think of Lembongan to be the flagship of our visit to Bali each year when we generally bring newcomers. Whilst they thought it was nice, it is on the decline and need to address many issues with the consideration of venues like Sandy bay villa accommodation (which I think will win hands down next time). Jo Jo's as a consideration for anything is sounding like and advert from the owners. Happy to review this in another forum, but their staff attitude toward customers seeking a nice evening out sucks big time...

Room Tip: Not sure what to suggest here, but we weren't necessarily impressed yet others may be. I think t...
