We left the Victoria Anna cruise ship and took a ferry to a dock, then boarded a pea pod boat which is like a dugout canoe. Groups of about 20 people were in each boat, along with 3-4 crewmen and a guide. The views all along the way were amazing and gave you a sense of what the area looked like before the Three Gorges Dam project. Along the way still in the ferry, we saw beautiful scenery and even saw a Hanging Coffin high up in the cliffside. Amazing! Our guide told us about the history of the area, then sang local songs. She sang like an angel! She was quite proud of her heritage and the area she comes from. The boat trackers are the men who man the boats and who used to run along the shore to guide their boats upstream when necessary. It appeared to be grueling work but the men appeared to enjoy it. The Shennong Stream ride was one of my favorite parts of our entire trip to China!
