“Fantastic Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2013

I stayed at the Leopold as part of a TravelZoo long weekend promotion.
I read reviews on here and as part of the deal was an upgraded room if available I emailed ahead to ask the Hotel if this was possible - they responded straight away and confirmed I would get the upgrade.
My room was in fact a suite and was absolutely fabulous - lovely and clean decorated nicely and lots of room.
The staff couldn't do enough to help - Louise and Alexandra were delightful.
I ate in the restaurant on the Friday evening and it was very very busy but still the service was fast and efficient. The food was delicious and good value for money considering the standard - I would highly recommend the trio of chocolate mooses!

The breakfast buffet in the Orangerie had plenty of choice and is in a lovely setting - again service was prompt and attentive.

The Hotel is ideally situated for the EU parliament and is within easy reach of all parts of Brussels with good Metro and Bus links.

I really enjoyed my stay and would recommend this Hotel

We went for a long weekend to Brussels we wished for a decent hotel with a good location . The Leopold had this it was easy to get transport but also easy to get to the centre by walking. The hotel is lovely the rooms were large for a city hotel and had everything you needed including tea and coffee facilities ( you need to ask for them). The buffet breakfast was great a wide selection which means something to eat for everybody. The staff were very friendly and helpful. This helped us have a great weekend in Brussels

Not sure I understand how this hotel is classed as four stars. I was a little disappointed. The room we were given was like a small studio apartment, but badly in need of a lick of paint. The chair cover was decidedly grubby. In the bathroom, the washbasin was cracked and the toilet bowl needed some serious cleaning. We had to ask for more hangers for our clothes - only 3 were provided, for 2 people staying 3 nights. And one pair of useless paper slippers. And one tea bag and one carton of milk. The socket where the kettle should be plugged into did not work. At breakfast, we had a jug of milk that was sour and curdled the coffee. This hotel hasn't even got the basics right. I will not return!

Dear Wombat 2013
YES WE REALLY ARE A 4* HOTEL AS ACCREDITED BY FLANDERS TOURISM. You can ask them for the 8 page list of criteria we have to fulfill...
I agree with you - your room needs a lick of paint (scheduled for this month) and I am very sorry if your milk was curdled at breakfast. We serve individual pots on the table each morning from freshly opened milk (for the tea and coffee), so I am not sure how this happened but have asked the F&B manager to make extra sure all is fresh in the future

As to your other comments you seemed to have forgotten to mention :
You paid 159gbp for 3 nights, Eurostar, 3 beers tasting, full buffet breakfast and all taxes
The room was a suite of 34 sq metres (average 4* size in the city is sround 16sq m)
You had a new bed and mattress
The chair you called grubby is a brushed material
You had a 42" flatscreen TV with 50 channels including BBC
The breakfast consist of 40 fresh items
You had a walk in wardrobe with 6 hangars (not 3)
You had free tea and coffee facilities (with information clearly saying if you want more just ask at Reception)
So I suppose you just forgot to mention the positives...

In answer to your other specific criticisms - the electric socket works fine (I have just verified it myself) - the sink has a hairline crack in the porcelein (it took me three looks to actually see it) and we will replace the sink as soon as possible - the toilet has had 10 years of hard water going through it due to a lack of a water softener by the previous management and therefore shows some calcification - it is also due for replacement.

As I have said before we are a hotel which is here to try to please and serve our guests. If you are missing something please ask at Reception rather than whinging on websites after the event. That way you get to enjoy your break !!

By the way I see you posted a review of the Travelodge at Euston and gave it a higher rating than us, yet you paid between 90-125gbp ofr 1 night without breakfast.

Just back tonight from 3 night stay in Hotel Leopold and wanted to say how much I enjoyed it. Ok we were not in a refurbished room but it was a good sized 3 bedded room, clean comfy beds , clean towels every day what more....... well the breakfasts were excellent great choice something for everyone. Finally Jose at reception ,every night we came in we were asking questions about churches, buses, trains he was there with his humour and information thank you. All staff were a credit to this hotel. Great location for hop on bus, European Parliament-well worth a visit and free! Good restaurants, lovely meal in Italian across the road -Portofino.

Dear LeoNurse
Many thanks for taking the time to write a review about your stay with us in Brussels. It was a pleasure having you stay with us.
I think it is true to say, our decor is not the most fashionable in our unrenovated rooms, but as you point out, that is not what we are about. Clean and comfortable with great levels of service is what we try to be ! I always find it a bit strange when people criticise the hotel for being old-fashioned...We don't pretend to be and if it's ultra modern with no service you want, then there is plenty of choice in Brussels !
I will let Jose know about your comments, I am sure he will be proud that his work has been noticed
We look forward to welcoming you back to your home from home in Brussels

We arrived late on Friday evening and were escorted upto our room. I did read reviews of this hotel so i did email asking for a garden room if possible as an upgrade. Unfortunately it was not so we were placed in room 832. This room everything we could have asked for. It was perfect for our stay. The included breakfast was more than adequate and the hotel itself is close to the major sites of the city. A great place as a base to explore the city. We will be back.

Room Tip: Room 832 was great with lots of space.

Dear Mr_gadget_london
Good to read we looked after you well and you found that the hotel was better than you expected. The problem with review sites like this, is that some people choose a hotel often based only on price and do not research if it meets there demands or not. Others find something missing or have a problem with their room and say nothing to us but then write a poor review about their stay...We do what we can to make everyone's stay a pleasant one...and, in your case, we seem to have got it right !
We look forward to welcoming you back next time you are in Brussels

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

We have just come back from a 4day break to Brusels and stayed at the hotel Leopold.

After reading some bad views we were worried about stayingat this hotel, but there was no need. We did have a room which I think has recently been refurished, okay we didn't have a room with a view but we did have a balcony! (only a table out there but none the less we had it ) besides we do not go away to sit in our room/ balcony.

The staff were very friendly. Although it is 4 star it does not have the normal grand receptions but this was not a problem to us.

The hotel is a good 15 minutes away from the main square, but very close to all the European Parlimntary buildings.

There was plenty to choose from at breakfast, even chips if you want or the healthier option of fruit and cereals.

With regards to finding the hotel it was very easy and as suggested by others you can buy a card's worth of ten tickets for 13.50 euros which you can use between you to take you either by bus ,tram or train to the hotel. You can then use them during your break.

Also we travelled by Eurostar which was a great way to travel on a package deal from "Railbookers" who rang us on our last day to warn of delays due to the bad weather which i felt was very good service from them.

Also to mention a good bar called "Peoples" which is as you come out of the hotel and turn left and then keep going left up the main road, they serve a very good Caeser salad and also we can recommend the Spagetti Bolognese and Calamari all huge meals at good prices and good service.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 752 and no noise problems from outside

Dear alessandro2010_10
I am very pleased to see that one or two negative reviews did not put you off coming to stay with us and that you enjoyed your break. I get quite angry that some people leave unfounded and untruthful comments. Yes we are happy to accept criticism and to admit we don't always get everything right but some of the comments are quite frankly absurd.
Your room was last renovated some 8 years ago, so it's good that it still looks fresh !
As you noticed we are not a grand 4* hotel but try to be a cosy, comfortable establishment, with service at our heart.
It seems you found our location perfect for your weekend away - near to Grand Place but far enough away not to have all the noise and hassle...
We hope to welcome you back soon

Although our room was spotlessly clean it was very small with not much storage space especially as we were there for 3 days. It was very quiet at night so we slept well. The bed was comfortable although a wee bit hard for us but thats not a complaint just our preference. Our room had a small terrace area and i should imagine it will be nice in the summer to sit outside with a glass of wine.

Breakfast was ok and had all the basics. Had continental and it was all fresh and tasty. We ventured into the bar once and although it was immaculate and modern, drinks were on the pricy side compared to other bars in area. If you turn right out of the hotel there are a few bars and places to eat.

Staff at the hotel are very welcoming and very pleasant and helpful.

Having read some other reviews we wasn't sure what to expect but this hotel is really nice and is about a 20 to 25 minute walk away from the grand square and restaurants so no good if you don't like walking on cobbles. Wear sensible shoes!! Not sure that its a 4 star, however, more 3 in my opinion but nice all the same. Would i stay again? Probably not but don't let that put you off, we never usually go back to the same place twice.

Dear Doris 1961
Great to read your comments about your stay with us and I am pleased we looked after you well.
You booked and paid for a standard room, with a size of 18 square metres - above average size for 4*s in Brussels city centre - with the normal amount of storage space of a wardrobe and cupboard with shelves. Believe me there aren't many rooms with balconies/terraces in city centre hotels ! The bed was new and the mattress one of our harder ones. If it wasn't to your liking we have other rooms with softer matresses...We also have lots of upgraded rooms, which are available for a very small supplement and are 2 or 3 times larger
I am not sure your comments about our bar prices being on the high side are quite accurate...we have deliberately set our prices to be ultra competitive and know that House wine at 4 eur per glass and 14 eur per bottle is the lowest in the area. Draught beer at 3.50 eur is also very reasonable. We also offer nibbles(peanuts, cheese, salami etc) with our drinks and serve to table...
It is good to hear that our staff impressed you and I only wish we could have convinced you more of the quality we offer. As you say, there won't be next time as you don't like to repeat visit but we can always hope
