We stayed 3 nights in July 2013. The deal was through Railbookers found on Travelzoo and included Eurostar return tickets. We knew that the hotel was not close to the centre but that is exactly why we chose it, we wanted somewhere quiet. We noticed many reviewers mentioning that it was far from attractions.....really? The hotel is located in the business area, not the city centre..... Surely everyone checks google maps when they book so please don't complain afterwards.
The metro is not a 10 minute walk away and buses a 2 min walk. It takes 25 minutes to walk to the Grand Place which is a nice walk, especially returning to the hotel having to walk off a big dinner.
The hotel was a pleasant surprise and there is nothing to complain about. Good size room, bathroom standard and everything very clean. The room was serviced every day. I liked the colour scheme and the tiles, made it feel like we were in a villa. We are quite sensitive to noise but could not complain as it was quiet. The only noise on the Friday night came from the restaurant across the road with patrons outside but it went quiet around 11:30pm. Also, the restaurant is not open Sat and Sun and it was not a real issue. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good with a variety of dishes. We cannot comment on dinner as we had meals in the city centre but the menus looked good although a bit pricey. The room had a fridge which was perfect as our visit coincided with really hot weather. We could buy lots of water from a nearby supermarket and keep it in the fridge. The hotel has excellent metro links and it was easy to do day trips from the hotel to Bruges and Gent. We bought train tickets to Bruges a month prior online which saved us about 50% of the cost. We also went on an unplanned trip to Gent which was EUR30 for 2 adults, bit expensive and much prefer Brussels over Gent. Brussels itself was a surprise with many people saying it is not a great place to visit. We totally disagreed. It is a lovely clean city, lots of things to see and do and lovely parks.
We are difficult to please but cannot find anything negative to say, the hotel ticked all the boxes. We always use tripadvisor to check reviews of hotels and are grateful for good reviews to enable us to make an informed choice. Needless to say, nit-picking isn't helpful and we found many of the negative comments in some of the reviews to be unfounded during our stay.
