“A True Oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

A True Oasis
This was the last riad of our 16 day tip of Morocco. After returning from the desert (Erg Chebbi) this was to be our last night before our journey home and I couldn't have asked for a more romantic and idyllic oasis to finish our wonderful trip. The photos all do the riad justice. It's location within the Draa Valley is spectacular. We relaxed and soaked up our stress free existence with peacocks walking around the beautiful garden, listening to relaxing music, drinking mint tea and eating dates picked right off the palm tree in front of us!! Who could ask for more? The rooms (cabins) are very well equipped and the food was excellent. The temperature was too cool to try out the pool but it looked delightful. If you are looking for a tranquil oasis ..then this is for you!

A lovely peaceful place to stay in the Draa Valley. It's right next door to the Tamnougalt Kasbah - an interesting lace to explore. The 6 individual cottages are cool & comfortable. The meals were good. The owners are very friendly and helpful - and even gave us a box of dates from their own palm trees.

Riad Bab El Oued just 5 km from the sympathetic village of Agdz could not be more romantic. A kasbah-like boutique hotel amidst the millions of date palms in the green ribbon of the Draa Valley, hundreds of miles long. Look at the pictures to get an impression of the incredible beauty of this Garden of Eden. Just six cosy and very comfortable rooms, each one an adobe-style house shaped as a Berber tent. Palm wood corners and columns. This "hôtel de charme" boasts ecological water management, solar energy and a colorful, organic flower and vegetable garden.
What the pictures can only show superficially, is the friendly care of the Moroccon-French owners Zine and Mathilde and their two helpers for kitchen and cleaning. They fill the extensive garden, and roof-terrace and common rooms with smiles and and their always active presence creates the refined oriental ambiance. Nafissa serves freshly baked cookies with odorous Arab tea, whenever you like, not a TGV (le 'Thé Grande Vitesse') but slowly brewed. Mathilde and Zine assist with providing information for walks or bike rides (bike available and free) in the immediate surroundings, for visits of the beautiful kasbahs, just a few steps from the resort and Zine even climbed one of his palms to fetch fresh dates for us.
Although we had planned to make a trip to the Sahara sand dunes, we stayed all 9 nights of our 1001 Nights vacation at this intimate, enchanting oriental resort.
A million thanks to the four of you, for this great Morocco vacation. Next time, again we will skip the big city of Marrakech and immediately take a 'grand taxi' at the airport to cross the Atlas to this biblical paradise.

Room Tip: Every single room has its own charm, tranquillity everywhere.

We spent 10 days travelling around Morocco and this place was a real highlight..

We arrived at night and the pool and huts were lit up with morroccan lights; it was quiet enchanted. That combined with the music, the food and the ambience makes this place well worth the visit.

The owners were really lovely people - very friendly with great taste in food and music - she even gave us her play list (thank you!).

What sets this place apart for us is the 16th century Kasbah which is right next door:Tamnougalt. A stones throw from Bab el Oued. We went exploring with an inpromptu friendly guide - it was ancient and blew our minds. We were even invited in for tea!

Thank you for a wonderful stay at Bab el Oued - you are superb value and so peaceful. We live in Ireland, but Morocca was in a league of its own when it came to hospitality and warmth.

This was absolutely the best part of our entire trip to Morocco and I would recommend it to anyone. I'd suggest you put this stay between two cities, as the cities are wonderful, but exhausting in every way. This is a great place to get a rest- although there is plenty to do here, you can also opt to just relax. It really is an oasis, and not far from the Sahara and across the street from an old Casbah, but inside it cool and the air is fresh with smell of flowers. The pool feels great when it's incredibly hot outside. Our last day there, the peahen's eggs hatched. The food was fantastic. I love this place and will be back for sure.
The owners were amazing and inspiring and welcoming. Be sure and go there!

We loved the atmosphere of this riad. It was beautiful with peacocks and turkeys wandering the grounds and little huts for guests to sleep in. The food was very good and the pool was incredibly refreshing on a hot day. But. The owner was very rude to us. She actually laughed at my husband when we told her that our air conditioning wasn't working well and said, 'What did we expect, we're in Morocco?' Well, being 10 days into our trip in Morocco and having experienced wonderful service and wonderful air-conditioning everywhere else we'd been we were rather surprised by her snide remarks. Perhaps we were spoiled - most of our hotel owners bent over backward to provide great service for us. This was just a bit of a disappointment.

Dear customers,
We thank you for your very positive opinion of Bab el Oued Morocco who are delighted that your stay in the grove Draa you've enchanted.
However we wonder if it's not you who laugh at us about the air conditioning; Indeed, to be wake up at midnight by your insistence to obtain 16 ° C, while outside it is 32 ° + c .. how should I say .... it's pretty uncomfortable ...
We have, however, shown other rooms to sleep, it's you who have finally decided to stay in your home? isn't it ?
Do I must to remind you that you are in Pre-Saharan province, and ask your air conditioning to get you 16 ° c is just an abheration?
Especially since your air conditioner has posted this hour ca 22 ° inside ....
Please Let our readers to independently evaluate your request that makes sense .
Sincerely yours .

Sincerely yours.

After having traveled from Erg Chebbi throug the antiatlas to the Draa valley Bab el Oued was the perfect Oasis within an Oasis.Situated in the palmerai of Tamnougalt the five guest bungalows around a very nice deep pool surrounded by a beautiful garden with peacocks and turkeys, nice rooftop terrace with shade and always a hint of music playing offerd the perfect relaxation. It is a great starting point to tour the Ksar of Tamnougalt and the palmeraie and surrounding villages on an off-road piste. The owners Zine and Mathilde are very welcoming and helpful. Zine´s mint tea is special as is the french-maroccan cuisine. They have alos just recieved a price by the moroccan government for the best ecotourism location in the country.
The perfect place to relax and get to know marocco!
All the best until next time!
