“AAA wellness experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Towards the end of our rail adventure in Europe we decided to go to a wellness hotel in Switzerland and decided on the Grand Hotel des Bains at Yverdon-les-Bains. What a treat. The town was small and this hotel was first class. The biggest treat is the adjoining spa. It's free if you stay at the hotel. They have several hot pools with different bubbles, steam and sun room and a lot more. It's the best I have been to and we'll go back when I get a chance again!

To be fair, this hotel is quiet and accomodating. The room is clean and simple. But the pillow and the bed are uncomfortable for the price I paid. 175 CHF. each person and extra person for 80 CHF. I was with my husband and my 12 yrs. old son, so we paid for that simple room for 435.00 CHF. per night. Ok, you will have free access to all accomodities in this hotel. I love the warm swimming pool, the hammam bath and the sauna. Maybe, if I paid a little bit less, I will rate this hotel for 5.

We spent a week end in Lavey after our recent move. This break was excellent, the hotel is good, the staff attentive, and our "grand charme" room was very spacious.
The food is good, plenty to chose from in the buffet.
We had a lot of fun in the pools, the sun was out so it was lovely
Only downside was the light in the bedroom, too weak and you can hardly see anything in the bathroom

The hotel reminds you of the ones from the 'belle epoque', as does the furniture and decoration. Most importantly, the beds are fine, the bed covers very light, and in this hotel you can still sleep with the windows open.

The spa facilities are one of a kind, and a must see, especially on a bright and cloudless day , or, when you happen to visit in wintertime, amidst the snowy shores of the spa complex itself..

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a queen or a king bed, since most of the bed in rooms are twin..

Really nice for a weekend with a great pool/spa: you are on the grounds of a big pool complex, with jacuzzis, hammam, saunas, thermal pools, massages...
The hotel room we received had a great view on snowy mountains, and was comfortable and cozy: probably meant for disabled, as the shower was a roll-in.
Breakfast was in a stunning hall, with frescos and big murano chandeliers: it had a cold buffet with some fresh fruits and boiled eggs. We had dinner at the Fondue restaurant on the grounds of the spa and it was delicious.

been here three times so love the place- rooms clean and practical, everything fine except catering which is limited and over-priced, but big tip for coming here is although it is a great place, go for one of the deals - prices for the rooms vary remarkably.... and in days past, room prices were pretty standard but now they're more according to the view and more according to the date...etc.etc best advice really is to try it, but try various dates to see if that alters the prices for you.

I spent 1 night and 2 days using the facilities of the spa and the baths.
The hotel is ok - staff are professional, but don't expect a warm greeting or a smile. If you are sensitive to cigarette smoke be sure not to stay on the 3rd floor where it is partly occupied by smokers. The ventilation system shuts at night and cigarette smoked seeps into the bathroom with an awful stench. I was informed by the receptionist when booking the room that the double bed was very big - actually, its just a double bed -not big at all. Room is decorated nicely. Free wifi. Mini bar. Nice views. Typical Swiss breakfast served in a lovely dining room. Again, staff are efficient but stern. Hotel also has an arrangement with a nearby chalet ( 2 mins walk down the road) for meals. Excellent dinner with Swiss specialities, warm welcome. Hotel also has an over-priced buffet lunch and dinner - didn't try it. Hiking trails nearby.

The highlight of the visit was the use of the adjoining baths. Clean facilities and different pools and relaxation areas with interesting options to try (underwater whale and classical music sounds, light therapy room, etc..). Also had 2 massages - not cheap and were just "ok".
I would definitely go back - the location is beautiful, the baths are lovely, but I might explore other accommodation options in the area.
