“Weekend Away Treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2014

We were treated to a night away by the in-laws and this place is fabulous. The rooms are beautifully decorated and exceptionally clean. The building itself is stunning attached to the original pub which dates back to 1530 but now very contemporary. We had a light lunch in the pub on the Saturday and settled on their terrace soaking up the sun (yes a sunny day in England!) and then had dinner in the evening. A really busy place with great atmosphere. The food was fantastic and well priced but more than anything.....

The staff are fabulous. Friendly, Smiley, Engaging and Helpful

A must stay if you live in the area and if not worth a journey

First visit to this lovely place. Food terrific, superb terrace with lovely views over the countryside. Staff excellent and extremely helpful. The interior was lovely and most importantly the loos were immaculate. All in all a great place to visit on a summer's day.

Just returned from a superb lunch at The Crown. Being a Veggie, I get a little tired of the indifferent offerings at some pubs/restaurants; however I had a delicious lunch of crispy pancake roll (not the type you get from a Chinese!) and an excellent asparagus risotto - fresh and full of flavour. The rest of our table thoroughly enjoyed well cooked fish & duck - my husband had the waffle with strawberries - not tinned. Yes, the lunch was a little pricey, but you pay for good quality freshly cooked food. The staff were efficient and friendly. The setting is beautiful with lovely views and the garden area delightful - shame it was raining today! We will return very soon.

Room Tip: We viewed one room and it was lovely - one of the Superiors. We did not stay however

We popped in on Sunday 15th June for a quick bite to eat but the food was not up to it's usual standards nor were the drinks. We had Gin and Tonic which had masses and masses of lime in it making it extremely sour followed by Steak Frites which was far far too salty followed by Waffles with tinned strawberries which I could not believe! I hope it is back to its usual high standards on our next visit as was a real shame.

I think that, as reviews will generally tend to be largely subjective, it’s always vital to read a good selection to get a real feel for a place.
On this basis, I think our Tripadvisor feedback gives a fairly good indication of what The Crown is all about: delicious food, carefully prepared from the freshest and best ingredients and priced accordingly; a great selection of interesting and competitively-priced wines, beers and spirits; a well-designed and luxuriously-appointed Hotel with the emphasis on comfort and care; last but by no means least, efficient and friendly service throughout.
To those of you who have loved what we do, we look forward to welcoming you back; to those who are still unsure, visit us again and see if we can’t convince you!

Fantastic service, every time! The staff are happy to help and always informative and polite. The food is of an very good standard, fresh and prepared well. Ambiance is always welcoming and warm and the outside area is clean and smart. I highly recommend if you want somewhere that consistently produces a great experience.

I have been coming to eat here for many years. The food is amazing, my husband and I get very excited about ordering! The cooking is great but not only that the produce is really good quality .. The combination making in my opinion the best pub food in the UK. The staff are lovely and very relaxed. The manager there is very nice and you can see that she runs the place well, the whole team communicate really well. The breakfasts are also out of his world. Expect to put on a few pounds if you are staying overnight, well worth it!

Came here with my daughter for luncheon. On the whole not bad although the menu for a vegetarian is very restrictive, and I think the menu as a whole very pricey. 3. Course meal for two with a bottle of wine, will knock you back £70-£80 pounds. We had the soup and garlic bread which was ok, however, when perusing the dessert menu noticed that the cheese platters and Welsh rabbit are on this menu and not the main. Big mistake, so when ordering ask for all menus up front. Service, very hit and miss. The table next to us received their mains, but it took one of the party to explore the kitchen personally for the vegetables to be brought out!!!!! Very bad service. It wasn't busy so absolutely no excuse for that. Also a big mix up with our dessert, only one sorbet arrived although two ordered. On the whole an ok place but it won't set the world on fire with price, service or selection. Also our bill came to £19.60 and i paid with a £20 note, however no change was forthcoming!!!!!!! Only 40p I know but it was assumed they could keep it.....are you getting the picture

...and the jury is out on your assertions! Firstly we have a plethora of vegetarian options - and delicious too. Secondly, you can eat 3-courses at the Crown with a wonderful bottle of wine for 2 persons at sub £60. Thirdly, cheese platters and the Welsh rarebit (not rabbit Patricia) do appear on the main menu. Fourthly, we did not have any customer hunting for their vegetables in the kitchen, they were just making a complaint about the table next to them who kept on moaning. Lastly, we do apologise for the fact that we thought you ordered one ball, and not two balls of sorbet, sorry for this 'big mix up!' As for the 40p my colleagues would never have done this, and were simply hunting for change.
Have a great summer.
