“The most eccentric hotel, ever! Wonderful! Merci Bien!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2012

Stayed here some time ago on a long trip across France to Haute Provence, and it was one the most memoreable experiences I have ever encountered. High up in the Alps between Gap and Grenoble sites this hotel in the one horse town of Corps, and apon entering you think you have mistakenly walked into an antiques market as the place is packed full of odd curiosities.

Our room continued the eccentric theme with silk patterned wall paper, the most opulent of bathrooms with the golden tap heads of a swans neck whilst the taps were the wings, completely bonkers, its like staying at a slightly crackers distant relative who you have not seen in years. Then throw in some stunning alpine scenary then your almost isolated and makes for a very restful night.

This also continues with food, and boy do you get fed. From entering the bar with homemade nibbles and biscuits, to the very excellent fixed price menu de terrior (25 euros), which was beautifully fresh oysters and seafood, braised cornfed chicken leg, the biggest and most delicious creme brulee, and about four amuse buchee between courses, a terrific wine menu and a few hours later you feel like Monty Pythons Mr Creosote. At one point I thought I really did think I would pop. They can cook and they cook extremely well!

Add in beautifully light croissant, bread and pastries for breakfast (all made onsite) will ensure that you leave with good heart. Service is impeccable and overall this is the standard which you would expect in a five star establishment but with a fraction of the costs. A truely magnificent and memoreable experience which I dearly would love to repeat.

Had dinner tonight in this Gault Millau 2012 mentioned restaurant. Once again I do question myself about this rating (in reference to other countries). Quality of cooking was poor and really not worth to be mentioned. The menu was served way to fast and thrown on the table. We didn't even finish our starters our the next course was served, just next to the foie gras. Dorade wasn't fresh and sauce dull and nothing like champagne sauce. Desert arrived within 2 minutes after cleaning the dinner plates! I counted! The crust of the cake was soft (frozen?). And on top of that a barrel organ started to play in the restaurant. Ambiance: verry floozy. I don't know where the michelin mentioning comes from, but it was really not because of the quality in food/cooking. Madame was all theater, what a façade! I will never visit this place again. I had better in cheaper restaurants in France.

I have visited here several times in my life and have always loved it! Yes, the rooms are quaint, but charming, the hosts very gracious and the food is outstanding! The Chef used to work on a cruise ship and the menus are incredible! The little town is so cute and you can buy local honey. You can also wind your way up the mountain to the monastery, worth the visit. If driving from Paris to the South of France, I would be sure to make the Hotel de La Poste one of my stops! Can't wait to go back.

Came lost in a storm (2 adults 2 children) and were given spacious communicating rooms.
The restaurant was positively a very enjoyable experience: good ambiance, very good food including local dishes and wine, attentive service - and free oysters really appreciated. All at surprisingly affordable prices.

Stayed in Corps one night while driving through France and wished we could have stayed longer. The hotel is a bit dated and old fashioned but full of charm and is very good value for money. The service was excellent and the staff very enthusiastic. The food was absolutely first class and consisted of several courses all large serves and very well presented. The best restaurant we have experienced for a long time.

We have stayed here many times ,but on our stay this time our room was an attick that was to small to fit us and our luggage ,the owner has the manners of a pig,and in the dinning room our food was so rushed it was thrown on the table as the waiter ran around, food was very good though .we will drive a few miles out of the village next time a try so of the places along the road.

Stayed here whilst doing driving trip through France - hotel was recommended by a French friend. Room was a bit old fashioned but full of character and comfy. The evening meal included was one of the best meals I've had in France with several delicious courses which took most of the evening to get through. Staff were very helpful and friendly too! Beautiful scenery surrounding the town!
