Stayed here some time ago on a long trip across France to Haute Provence, and it was one the most memoreable experiences I have ever encountered. High up in the Alps between Gap and Grenoble sites this hotel in the one horse town of Corps, and apon entering you think you have mistakenly walked into an antiques market as the place is packed full of odd curiosities.
Our room continued the eccentric theme with silk patterned wall paper, the most opulent of bathrooms with the golden tap heads of a swans neck whilst the taps were the wings, completely bonkers, its like staying at a slightly crackers distant relative who you have not seen in years. Then throw in some stunning alpine scenary then your almost isolated and makes for a very restful night.
This also continues with food, and boy do you get fed. From entering the bar with homemade nibbles and biscuits, to the very excellent fixed price menu de terrior (25 euros), which was beautifully fresh oysters and seafood, braised cornfed chicken leg, the biggest and most delicious creme brulee, and about four amuse buchee between courses, a terrific wine menu and a few hours later you feel like Monty Pythons Mr Creosote. At one point I thought I really did think I would pop. They can cook and they cook extremely well!
Add in beautifully light croissant, bread and pastries for breakfast (all made onsite) will ensure that you leave with good heart. Service is impeccable and overall this is the standard which you would expect in a five star establishment but with a fraction of the costs. A truely magnificent and memoreable experience which I dearly would love to repeat.
