“Fantastic and Cozy Chalet!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

We stayed for 2 nights in this homey and beautiful chalet. The hotel is owned by a warm and hospitable family. The food served were great. I am very typical with hotel cleanliness and they at par reached my standards. Lobby is cozy for gathering friends and family. They have a piano...Yes! The rooms are clean with crisp beddings and a nice view of the village. The ones that I actually see inside my snow globe dreaminess. The bed is a bit small though..something similar to goldilocks. Water is potable anywhere. So pls do not ask this question in Switzerland. Train station to Interlaken is 10min. walking distance. I do not mind walking in a village with a great view of the Alps, after all. By the way, we were lucky enough to get the rooms near the balcony area, so we had a nice picture taken by the village houses and mountain view.

Room Tip: Get the rooms near the balcony area :)

We stayed at Schönbühl with the Expat Explore Europe Escape Tour and this was certainly one of the best hotels we stayed in, bearing in mind that all hotels/hostels were either 2 or 3 star.
Our Coach driver perfectly manoeuvred the bus all the way to the top where the hotel is located on the edge of the mountain, which pretty much gives all rooms a lovely view of the valley. We stayed in a twin room with very colourful bed linen (probably ideal for teenagers travelling!), however the room was extremely spacious and we had an excellent view on th top floor.
The food on both nights was excellent, however only the first night's meal was included. As the owner offered a typical swiss cheese fondue on the 2nd night for a reasonable CHF15, we opted for that and it was a wise choice, as Switzerland is extremely expensive, especially if you chose to dine out.
The bathroom however was tiny and it is very hard not to spill water all over the bathroom floor, with the existing shower curtains.
We were given a complimentary day pass to travel into Interlaken either by Bus (10min from the hotel) or by train (15 min). Both options are great and you can fill up your water bottle along the way from one of the many waterfountains, which offer clean water.

All in all it was a good stay and I surely would love to come back in Winter, as this must be a snow paradise!

Room Tip: Take note that the tiny lift does not go all the way to the top, therefore you may have to carry you...

Stayed at the hotel as part of an Expat explore tour for 2 nights. Place was clean, homely and the meals provided were tasty. Clean towels provided, good views of the mountains and the town. Location though is a 15 minute walk to the nearest train station. Owner does have rules but I personally don't think its harsh. I would stay here again if given another opportunity to visit beautiful Switzerland.

The room we got was good. Some other members of Expat Explore trip got bad one with few complaining about room heating and pipe leaks in the room.

This is a family run hotel and is pretty well thought out to squeeze the customer's extra money. Internet is given free only if you buy something from the bar. The password changes everyday. Wifi connectivity is only in the bar/reception room. No internet in the rooms.

Food provided was good. Vegetarians were provided with decent options.

The owner places quiet a few restrictions like 'Do not use your devices in the dining rooms', 'Ensure that water does not spill out of the shower while having your shower', 'Say please to him when you order a drink or buy something from his bar'!

The showers provided do not have a glass door only a thin curtain so invariably you end up spilling water outside and then clean it.

Room is cleaned every day, towels not replaced. Heating was average.

Breakfast is above average. They can add more variety but I guess that is what you get for what you pay.

Lighting in the corridors should be better as it does switch off automatically but does not switch on when people move about.

Our room though was clean but was not thoroughly cleaned as we found an empty bottle of whisky and some junk stuff below the sofa.

Room Tip: Choose rooms at the corners. Others in the middle did mention that they were feeling quiet cold even...

We stayed here for two nights on our Expat Explore tour.

The room was very basic but of reasonable size. Towels and heated rails in the room. We were lucky we got a room with a balcony but didn't have any views as it was cloudy and rainy. The floors creaked loudly with every step and you can hear people walking loudly on the corridors.

The corridors are not lighted and you will frequently have to find the room in the dark or find the switch for the lights which turns off automatically quite quickly.

We had dinner here but the food was very basic. Breakfast was also very basic with very hard bread - no toast, and 2 types of cereal with tea, coffee and juice. The dining room was very basic and plain.

It is a short walk to the bus station - about 5 minutes which takes you into town in 10 minutes. It's free as all hotels will give visitors a pass for the day. The train is about a 15 minute walk away.

The owner is a very reserved man and seldom smiles but he is not rude. There are a few rules - shower curtain inside the bath, no electronic devices in the food hall and no outside food or drinks. If you want wifi, you will need to buy something from the bar.

Overall, there was no real personality to the place considering its a family run hotel. If we returned to this area, we would probably try another hotel.

We stayed on a tour, good points were the great home cooked meals for dinner, for a great price. Views of the mountains amazing. It is possibly an expectation issue but the room that we stayed in shared one toilet and a timed shower room with the rest of the floor so it was more of a school camp than a comfortable stay. So annoying that in the middle of the night you need to use the bathroom you have to stumble down the hallway. At least there is a sink in the room. Free wifi with the purchase of a bar product which is fair enough. This place has many rules so felt a bit strict and that we would be rouced upon for bringing an iPad into the dining room. The power points are a bit different to the rest of Europe but the hotel was kind enough to lend an adaptor for a deposit. Good location for exploring Jungfraujoch. No double bed room for us...so once again single beds pushed together. The town is cute and quaint, two supermarkets. Switzerland is expensive so if budget is an issue maybe you could put the shared facilities issue aside?

I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. Switzerland is beautiful and so the views around this hotel is very pretty. It is a 15 mins walk from the train station.

It is a family run business. The owner is very unfriendly. And has many rules -e.g. you cant bring any food from outside, stay quietly, use the tiny swimming pool at specific times only...
Wifi is available in the lobby only, provided you buy chocolates/drinks etc.

The nice thing about the hotel is the view - however, you can get such views from any hotel in the Alpine region.
