“Good, somewhat pricey!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

The hotel is of older style, fully renovated. It is family-owned and the members of the family have different functions, sometimes more than one. The atmosphere was very friendly, informal and easy going. The bed was a dream, new linnen, duvets and pillows.

We had room No. 9: It is on the Southwestern corner on the 2nd floor. It was spacy, and had sea view (Lakefront), the view on the other side of the corner was towards Northwest: Part of the lake was visible also there, and the other window was in fact a balcony with a separate entry. To the facilities also belong a Lake restaurant on the other side of the street as well as a little bathing area (sun deck with 4 chairs and a raft). Don't miss it, it's worth to try!

We visited the place a bit out-of-season, and the quite famous touristic place was already behind its peak. Although the main street was just outside the hotel, traffic was so low during the night that we did not find it disturbing.

Reserving the hotel was a bit complicated, as we had to call. Pricewise, it is a bit on the high side (knowing that places in Switzerland in general are higher priced than e.g. Italy), but having a room facing Lake of Lugano is not an experience for enjoyment everyday. Good memories will hopefully prevail, having spent more than usual perhaps you will forget.

Room Tip: We show our experienc for room No. 9. We can recommend this one, but do not know the others. If you...

Is it only the English who think the Swiss are having a laugh when it comes to prices?
A plate of Penne Arrabiatta I could easily make at home for a £1 here costs about £17.
The room with the smallest bathroom on our trip which included 3 other European countries cost twice as much as anywhere else we stayed.
And for breakfast.......mouldy fruit.
Views of the lake are lovely, just as they are down the road in Italy for half the price!

Room Tip: Lake view if you can afford it!

We Just get back from our trip to Morcote and we were really dissabointet about the Hotel. We get there and our Room was soo small and the bed too so I thought that's impossible. As my fiance booked it I didn't knew this Hotel. When I went to see on theyre page I saw that this room was actualy a Singel room. They had given us a singel room as a double for the price of a double room. As we told the owner of the hotel that this was a singel room she sed: We always sell this room as a double room.
Than we went than to see the hotel next to us (Hotel Iris) and wanted to switch hotel but it was full. But the man on the reception of the hotel Iris was so friendly , gave us all the information we asked for about theyr hotel and told us he was so sorry that they did tick us. So we had to sleep in a small bed which was actualy fo 1 person.
We will never ever again go to this hotel. Next time we will stay in the Hotel Iris.

This is a small family hotel at the lakeside of a very small town in Lugano, Morcote. Morcote itself is a very touristic area, nevertheless it is still worth to go there and enjoy a relaxing weekend. I recommend especially to book a room viewing the lake. In the morning you can see the sun rising and the silence of the area makes you aware of ducks, birds and even wind and water. The hotel and the rooms look old but they are clean, the breakfast buffet is not big, but it all doesn't matter. The hotel staff is very friendly and the price is ok for the area.

  • Liked — Lake scenary
  • Disliked — expensive shops in downtown, too touristic oriented.
