Although my parents are local to thw area (only 5minutes drive from the lodges) we chose the Watermouth Lodges as a base for a big family Christmas. We were thrilled to bits with the cabin (paradise lodge at the top of the hill) It was billed as a luxury lodge and we really felt it lived up to the billing in all regards. The main open plan living area was bright light and airy, well decorated and was such a wonderful, happy space for all the adults and children to socialise together, 11 of us in total ranging from 17 months to 70 years. However there was still plenty of 'getaway' space for the moments when you needed 5 mins peace. The wrap around veranda was such a lovely addition to the lodge and, although we didn't use it as much as we would have liked, it offered a wonderful extra space to disappear out onto with a drink and just to soak up the atmosphere and view out across the sea to Wales. I imagine it to be heavenly in the summer, and as it is contained with a lockable gate at the side of the lodge, it is safe for toddlers and children to have a run about on while you're cooking tea.
The bedrooms were a great size and the master bedroom in particular was a joy to stay in. The beds were wonderfully comfortable and the rooms neither too hot nor too cold. The main bedroom is very spacious and both double bedrooms have a flat screen TV to retreat off too. The en suite in the master room was such a treat with a rather wonderful walk in shower that spoke to you, played the radio and generally sprayed you with every sort of shower head you could wish for.
The kitchen was wonderfully well equipped and we needed to bring only the minimum of extras up from my parents house, and that was only because we were doing Christmas feasts for 11 in there. The American style fridge freezer and big double oven were a god send. As was the breakfast bar island in the centre which we used as extra space to lay out dishes for the dinners in the evening, and to sit with a coffee and chat to the lucky souls lumbered with the cooking during the day times.
The dining table expanded to a great size and there was plenty of room to eat together. It was particularly lovely to sit there chatting with drinks while the children played in the large, comfortable living area.
The staff had put up a little tree for us when we arrived, which was a lovely touch. With the addition of a few extra fairy lights and decorations it looked magically festive. I had a lot of enquires about where we had stayed when my friends saw the pictures on Facebook.
The cleaners were very good and happily waited for us to execute the monumental exit procedure on the final day. They were a credit to the company, not even raising a small frown when we were late leaving and seemed to be carrying a constant stream of boxes, bags and children out of the lodge for hours.
All in all I highly recommend Watermouth Lodges and the owners and staff. It is a truly happy place to spend a holiday, no matter what time of year you go. Especially when you take into account the price being so much lower than the other similar venues we looked into foe the Christmas break.
We hope we will be able to organise another big, family get together again one day soon, and when we do, the Paradise lodge at Watermouth cabins will be our first choice.
Thank you for a magical Christmas.
