“Wow .... Great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

We visited Appelation while in the Barossa Valley. Appellation was a great restaurant, nice ambiance, great wait staff and fantastic food. Tasted one of the Two Hands Wines which prompted us to visit the winery the next day.

“International 5-star food in the heart of Barossa - Must-go for food aficionados!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013 via mobile

Definitely would qualify to be a michelin-starred restaurant!

What we liked about Appellation's summer selection:
1. Beautiful sunset - nice to sit out at the back having a cocktail and watching the sun set.
2. Superb modern Australian cuisine - we loved every plate that came out. Appellation would be one of the reasons why I would go back to Barossa again.
3. Intelligent and sincere service - from the sommelier to the servers, we were treated like royalties. Everyone knew a lot about their areas of expertise and we were able to appreciate the food and wines much more.

What we didn't like at Appellation:
Nothing!

“Really good food and attentive service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

Really enjoyable food and there was no doubt that the chefs were highly skilled. Local procurement, which is great. Very expensive though so not sure I would return again. I prefer a more relaxed environment with a bit of a buzz whereas Appelation is very quiet and formal.

“Tasty and elegant but, overpriced and too "safe"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

This is my 3rd visit to Appellation. Every time I have enjoyed the food which is relatively simple, but well cooked, tasty and well presented. It is not all that creative, but aims for the safe middle ground in terms of flavours and techniques. Nothing on the menu is "mindblowing"
The highlight on this visit was the Adel blue ice cream with pear and walnut tart. The disappointments were the cold roll and tomato water amuse bouche.
Despite enjoying the food, I have consistently felt that the Appellation is overpriced for what it offers.
I have stayed at the rooms connected to the restaurant and, similarly, they are very overpriced what what they offer, although they are convenient.

“Would be nice if they bothered to respond to dinner reservation requests”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

Don't even bother trying to book into this restauant unless you are staying at the on site accommodation. 3 weeks prior to our trip to the Barossa we submitted a dinner reservation request for 2 people on a Saturday night. No response received via email at all. We then proceeded to book into another restaurant. 1 hour prior to our requested reservation time at this restaurant we received a phone call confirming our dinner reservation for the night and they then had the nerve to tell us that messages had been left on our mobile phones asking us to call to confirm the booking. This certainly did not occur. Obviously priority is given to guests staying at the on site accommodation, and any left over tables are allocated to outside guest bookings, but it still would be nice if our dinner reservation requests could have been responded to in a timely manner. This poor customer service is not acceptable.
