I stayed this cosy hostel for 2 nights in Aug, 08.
We were welcomed by a big smile of the owner at the reception, and he showed us small, but clean guest rooms. There are some domitories and private rooms, and they're both in Japanese "Tatami" style. My room was very clean and confortable.
The dinner was cooked by the owner's wife, who is definately a good cooker. Tasty home-style dishes, followed by a cake and coffee!
The YH is located in a Nukabira hot springs resort. The bath tub is not a big one, but it is a true hot spring bath. You can also walk to the other hotels around YH, and take a free bath here and there.
This YH is surrounded by beautiful nature, and has good access to the East-Daisetsu mountains. Although I had to give up climbing because of bad weather, I could meet wild pika near the Lake Shikaribetsu, and also enjoyed canoeing there and short trecking to Lake Shinonome.
I hated to leave this warm and comfortable family-run hostel, and I would go back again!More
