“Lovely Room, Clean and Comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2013

I arrived late at night and the hotel had reserved a ham salad sandwich for me because of my later arrival. Plenty of parking, old building nicely made up. A comfortable lounge area and a spotlessly clean bedroom. Bathroom was clean, with shower and bath. Breakfast was simple but perfectly OK. Would certainly return. The hotel is a little out of character with its environment - in a Welsh-speaking area, but the staff on the night were not able ot speak Welsh and the men in the bar drinking in the bar all had accents from afar. I think that they could do with a bit of work to support the local culture and language - e.g. some bi-lingual signs to welcome visitors would be nice.

Good good pub, good food , good beer, good interior. Not a bad word to say, comfortable place to grab a good pint, drink good whiskey and socialise with friends long into the night

My wife and i used this Bar/Restaurant while on holiday nearby. Friendly enough place and service was good. Beer also was a good pint and not too pricey. Meal was ok, nothing special just plain pub grub and what you would expect price wise when out in the sticks.

Recently stayed here as a base to venture off to mount Snowdon, Nice secluded location which we enjoyed. Staff were really friendly and welcoming, Food good other than oily linguine. As a veggie they were keen to offer alternatives. My meat-eating boyfriend loved the homemade burger!
Room was basic but came with all necessary facilities. TV and wi-fi just about works but if that's an issue maybe you have missed the point of visiting Wales. Only issue was with the sani-flow system (rm5). Basically sounds like the toilet is being flushed repeatedly all night. The authentic Welsh singing from the downstairs bar was much more welcome.
In summary a pleasant welcoming B&B with its heart in the right place but the night time noises need addressing in rm 5 at least.

Room Tip: avoid room 5

We stayed in the hotel on the night of the 26th October room 6. The weather could not have been worse but the warmth of the welcome from all of the staff was incredible.
The meal we had in the evening was cooked to perfection as was the sausage and bacon for breakfast. This was followed by several drinks at the bar.
We were more than taken aback when the bill arrived the following day. I honestly do not know how they make a profit by charging those prices for such high quality products. (I need to stop there or they might double the prices!!)
One tip though please get rid of those cushions from the room they are past their sell by date. Also a few curtain hooks would not go amiss. Its little things like that that let you down.

Once again thank you all for your welcome. You could not do enough for us. Diolch I bawb. Ardderchog.

Room Tip: We liked room 6 as it was at the back so away from any traffic noise.

Booked The Grapes for a one night walking adventure. Weather was a shocker, so thankfully walk ended before dark back at the warm hotel. Excellent welcome by the manager and genuinely friendly and warm welcome from the staff. Room for the money was unbelievably good - I have paid double for rooms not half as good. I booked budget price and got really good quality accommodation. Beers and service in the bar was good, and while they had a 'gas problem' in the kitchen the two meals came hot and extremely well cooked. The chips must be cooked to some local secret recipe as they were incredibly good - steak was top quality and well cooked. After a number of libations off to bed and again very comfortable.

Breakfast is a bit DIY style - but - cooked bacon and eggs were brilliant. Best bacon you could wish to eat.

Of course I could find things to dissect but I wouldn't moan about anything - for the money you could not get any better.

We stayed at Grapes 11th-13th oct 2013 and must say cannot fault it at all.The rooms are very good, everything you need is there...tea/coffee etc.En-suite excellent and very clean. The food is 100% and piping hot, again cannot fault. The only thing i would suggest is that you are given a steak knife when ordering a steak, just a thought.Matt and his team are brill they can not do enough for you, they all make you feel very welcome.I would highly recommend staying here and will be going back for sure.
