Bottom line up front: A great family vacation spot.
The Kinderhotel Felben is a beautiful, comfortable, homey hotel located in the picturesque town of Mittersill. The basic concept of the "kinderhotel" is that it provides an opportunity for families to go on vacation together but where the hotel provides some degree of childcare and children's programs (how much depends on its "smiley" rating). The Felben is a 4-star, 4 smiley property, so both the hotel amenities and children's activities are top notch. The kids' program (ages 3+) is included in the price at the Felben; for children 2 and under, childcare is available at an hourly rate. Since the Felben is located on a working farm, kids can take pony rides, see how they milk the cows, meet the sheep and goats, etc. There is also an outdoor playground with climbing equipment, swings, a sandbox, bikes and other riding toys. They also have several indoor play areas for when the weather isn't so great.
Our room was an 'Apartment Arche." It had a parents' bedroom with a queen bed as well as a separate children's bedroom with a sleeper sofa. Both rooms had balconies. There was a split bathroom: toilet in one room, bath and sink in another. The apartment was plenty big for our family ( 2 adults, 3 yr old, 1 yr old).
All meals are also included in the room rate. Breakfast is an ample buffet with omelettes to-order. Lunch is a buffet. There are afternoon snacks & cakes between 2:30 and 4:30. And dinner is a sit-down, multi-course affair (starter, soup & salad buffet, main course, dessert). Because it is a "kinder" hotel, the staff (and other guests) are very accommodating when it comes to children of all ages. You won't feel like you're bothering the other guests if your baby is crying at breakfast because someone else's will be doing it at lunch.
While the children are doing one of their activities, the parents can take advantage of the various spa/wellness offerings. My wife & I both enjoyed a one-hour massage, but there are plenty of other services: sauna, facials, etc.
There is also an indoor pool area with three different pools: a very shallow one for babies, a toddler-sized one, and then one for older kids and adults.
All of the staff (reception, restaurant, bar, activities, wellness) were exceptionally friendly and helpful.
Though I would have a hard time recommending a trip to this hotel if you are coming from outside of Europe, I have no reservations about recommending it as a great family getaway if you are already resident here.
