A little bit of a hole. Lots (and I mean lots) of flies apparently from the dairy operation across the road. But even more disappointing was the manager who was at the front desk at check in. What a rude woman After telling us 3 times we must remove our boots before entering, she ignored our response each time that we had already done so. When I finally said "look at our sock feet", she said if I was going to be rude that we needed to go somewhere else. When I pointed out we were prepaid thru you, she said that did not matter and she could just keep our money. We finally did manage to get in but then had to fight the flies. There has to be better alternatives in trient or other places nearby.

We stayed in the dortoir on Tour de Mont Blanc. As others comment, there is little competition as the hotel is sited at top of a busy pass and I was soon wishing we had continued descent and found something a bit more comfortable. The hotel is clean, plenty of hot water and I found the staff to be very, very helpful. However, the food was slow to serve and meagre. The dortoir is sited on top floor across within the eaves. Definitely not recommended for anyone with claustrophobic tendencies. The only fire escape was out of a window in one of the other bed rooms which you would need to pull out a fixed ladder and downclimb 3 stories. Not sure this would have obtained a Fire Certificate in UK.

We stayed here in June 2013 on the Haute Route from Chamonix to Zermatt. The staff were friendly and welcoming (more so than our review below) and we paid 59 SF for the dortoir - dinner and breakfast which equates to £ 40 - which is very good value especially for Switzerland. The dortoir was clean and tidy - and - here's a tip - use the very good showers and lavatories on the top floor which are better than the facilities in the basement.
Our dinner was fine and we were offered second and third helpings and at breakfast there was no problem in having as much bread as we needed.
So don't be put off - this place has a certain charm and the staff can be very pleasant.

Room Tip: The ground floor dortoir is good - but the dortoirs on the second floor are smaller and have better...

Seven of us stopped at Hotel du Col de la Forclaz while completing the Tour du Mont Blanc. There is little competition in the area so we booked into the dortoir for the night. The hotel was clean and tidy, but my bed was uncomfortable. Breakfast was rather meagre. Plenty of bread but only one croissant and if you wanted a second you had to pay extra which I thought was fairly pitiful.
We didn’t fancy the dinner menu either, but across the road was a farm which sold their own produce. We had a very lovely platter of cheeses and cold meats served with rye bread and a rather pleasing bottle of red.

La Forclaz is a mountain pass above Martigny on the way to Chamonix at 1,527m of altitude. It is cool and green there with a backdrop of snow-capped mountains. The hotel is roughly the only place there besides a shop and a farm. The place is rustic but comfortable with an old European charm. The owners are friendly French-speaking Swiss. The hotel provides WiFi and has a bar and a restaurant. We had dinner on the terrace with a view on the mountain. The food was great: I had duck cooked in honey with a grilled mashed potatoes and a homemade ice-cream for dessert. Continental breakfast was also very good with fresh bread and croissants. If you stay there a bit longer, there are hikes to be done. Across the street, by the farmhouse, there is an open shop that sells Swiss wine and cheeses. You can also have a glass of Swiss wine there looking down at the field where cows are grazing and at the valley far below. I forgot to add that the hotel has moderate prices for Switzerland.

Room Tip: - Not many rooms : this ios a quiet place despite the proximity of the main road.

As per other reviews, monopolised position at Col du Forclaz. Unfriendly greeting by owner, but staff were friendly and helpful. Overpriced dortoir, boiling hot, then freezing cold - filthy toilets and awful shower. Owner very unfriendly to a cyclist staying in the dortoir who became ill during his travels. Recommend to stay down in Trient at either of the two dortoirs and cope with the hike up the hill in the morning, or pay extra for a proper room (prob not much more in the end). Decent dinner but tiny breakfast.
