“First Family Ski Trip a Total success”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2010

We had no high expectations of our first family ski trip but Arc 1950 was a brilliant choice. We drove down from UK thru the Tunuel and it took about 9 hours from Calais to the door , only stopping for diesel. Perfect French roads as ever. Parking the car underneath the Village was a great start as you then get a lift straight up to your apartment. We took a larger one with two bedrooms/bathrooms plus a double bed in lounge. Everything was clean and fresh and a good size. Definately worth the extra money. good but small kitchenette with all the utensils you would need plus a dishwasher. Excellent. the only fault we could find was no DVD palyer for telly and no way of adding ours to to it. Only one or two english TV channels, so take your own laptop for films.
1950 itself is purpose built but it makes no differnce in the snow - all looks very pretty. The bars and restaurants are pretty derivative and pretty expenive but that just did not matter. Take all your own food and booze and this can be a pretty reasonable ski holiday compared to some.
Skiing for us was great. Two of us can ski well but two were absolute beginners. Great ski schools and plenty of BLue runs made wife and daughter pretty competent by the end of our perfect week!
Will be back!

This was our third ski trip to the resort, and we have noticed a small, but noticeable, decline in standards. The check in/check out procedure has got more convoluted, the hotel itself is showing signs of wear and tear, the cleaning is sub standard and some of the fixture and fittings in the room were broken and needed replacing.

The high prices still remain at all the restaurants - frankly you would be crazy to eat out at all in the village - far better to stock up with food and cook yourself. The local supermarket is overpriced so better if you have the option to pick your food up in Bourg St Maurice.

However in spite of the above I still reckon that if you are a (British) family with pre-teenage kids this is probably still the best bet for a s skiing holiday. It really is ski in-ski out so it takes a lot of the pain out of getting onto the slopes, the resort looks like it has been designed by Disney as to fit their image of 'what an alpine village should look like' , the ski school is friendly and efficient enough and there are plenty of events laid on for the kids - we had an easter egg hunt, marshmallow roasting on an open fire, snow golf and so on.

The rooms are bigger than you will get in most other such villages, tho it remains a pretty expensive place to stay.

Nevertheless we will be back, but we will definitely make sure we buy all our food before we arrive.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. We're so pleased to hear you have return to the resort many times but we do apologise for any negativity you incurred during your last stay with us. I am pleased to say that the hotel is scheduled for a full refurbishment during next season, meaning the furnishings and level on maintenance will be improved. We do thank you for your comments regarding the check-in process at the residence. As a repeat customer you have a keen insight into the process and therefore we have logged your comments which will now be passed onto head office for further consideration. We do encourage customers to take advantage of the kitchen facilities in the apartment as we appreciate that dining out in the resort can be expensive. We pride ourselves on being an ideal base for families with children and we believe we are in a fantastic location for safe and easy ski holidays. We also try to ensure our childrens activity programme is as jam-packed as possible! We do hope that you consider staying with us again soon.

Wrting this review as i'm in the hotel. Now managed by french mid market operator Pierre et Vacances this is not "The finest" but a rather decent 3 star operation. Apartment is OK and well located and in our area is quiet. The same is not true of the rest of the hotel from what we've seen - lots of small children running around unsupervised-especially in the swimming pool which to quote my 10 year old daughter was "bonkers". However this is a great ski area for families and the Spirit 1950 ski school seems to be very well run. The Crystal staff were very helpful and there when you needed them without being pushy. Definately will come back to Les Arcs but prefer the Radisson (now P and V as well) so will have to find other place to stay.(maybe Chalet in Arc 2000).

This entire Resort is gorgious, accommodation on a real 4* level, we had a individual fire place in our Condo.

Everything was flawless from the beginning to the end. Knowing others french Resorts rather well, this is really outstanding in terms of quality, skiing, animation.
Restaurants are varied and good, nightlife is sufficiant with several pubs, one extraordanary Lounge Bar and 1 Club.

The entire staff is really treating you very well. I'll definetely will be back

Arc 1950 is a small newly built village in authentic style. Charming, great atmosphere, perfectly situated, incredible opportunities for great skiing and boarding, never a dull moment, directly situated at the pistes, the perfect ski-in / ski-out. Residence Arc 1950 is a rather large appartmentbuilding with a large variety of appartments. Maintenance could be better, lost of small things that don't work or are damaged. Also some fresh paint would do wonders. Staff is not to friendly (understaffed / to busy?) I would not like to be there in high season. Shops in the village are very expensive, especially food (only one supermarket). We realy disliked the overexposed attention for Russian tourists (there are many of them).

We really enjoyed our stay here. Had 2 bedroom apartment which was spacious with ideal facilities and balcony with good view of pistes, mountains etc. Literally ski in/ski out. Facilities in village are excellent with a variety of restaurants & bars. Also a well stocked Spar. No vehicles are allowed into the village.
Skiing in Les Arc is amazing. No queues for any of the lifts, and the ski school (Spirit) were excellent. 1 minute trip by lift to Arcs2000 if you want a larger resort. Don't do what we did and ski into Vallandry late in the afternoon thinking you'll get the shuttle bus back. You can't, although it's shown on the piste map, it's a different bus that doesn't go to Les Arcs. Cost us €50 for taxi back to Bourg-St-Maurice!! Ski lockers need vents in doors to allow heat in, as my boots were usually still wet next morning. Also, shame the hotel reception isn't manned during the week as the reception area was a bit of a ghost town and would benefit from a communal area.
Highly recommend visiting George in Au Tours Des Vins for a great evening. Also the torchlight descent evening, great fun, even though we were the only family there.
We'll definitely be returning to Les Arcs 1950.

We have just returned from 10 days stay at Le Manoir in 1950 Pierre and Vacances. It is a great location - totally ski in /out and all the buildings are built in traditional style around a village square.
The apartment is large by French standards and similiar the the resort of Whistler ( but a lot smaller) as the resort was origionally built by Canadian developers. The room is well equiped with king size beds , small kitchenette( very well equiped ) and lounge with balconey
The pool for Le Manoir is outdoors and has great views as does the hot tube - there is also a sauna.
The Village is small but the bars Le Belle pints , Georges wind bar and O Chaud are all good and have a good atmosphere. There are about 8 restaurants - booking is advised - Valentinos is by far the best. - The spa shop has been extended and does a good range of takeaway food in the basement - ( beware buy before 7pm in peak times) - and you must try their takeaway spit roast chickens
Great ski area extensive and slopes for all - you can even get the cable car across to Le Plagne for the day
