“Excellent food and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2014 via mobile

Stayed for a ski holiday in Feb 2014 with my wife and 10 year old son. Rooms were spacious, clean, comfortable and warm. Food was excellent - high quality, lots of choice and very tasty. Staff very friendly and helpful. Ski in / ski out location in 1600. Nice peaceful village, but maybe a bit quiet if you are looking for lively après ski. Would definitely go back.

Just returned from a week at this hotel and couldn't fault it. Staff were friendly, rooms were spotless and the food was plentiful and tasty.

Each day for breakfast we had continental and eggs, always filled us up for the slopes. The dinner had a soup and salad buffet each night and then alternated buffet and table service for the mains. Lots of yummy desserts each evening too, we have put on a few pounds! I really feel they went above and beyond with the food considering how affordable this hotel is.

There is a couple of shops in 1600 and a few restaurants. We enjoyed the lunches in switch the most, the owner Mike is smiley and welcoming and his food is great. We also enjoyed Arvi Bar a few doors down for a hot wine and some live music a few of the nights. The bar in the hotel is nice too, very chilled and relaxing.

Great variety of runs, both of us are intermediate boarders and had plenty to keep us challenged and entertained! Intersport a few doors down from the hotel entrance we found were the cheapest by far for rental, they were helpful and the boards were good.

Just returned from a week's skiing in the first week of Feb. A brilliant hotel, well positioned in the resort - a real gem.
Well supplied by ski lifts. The cachette lift just 5 mins walk away which then enabled you to access the rest of the ski area. Mont Blanc lift another minute on which was a fun but challenging blue back to the hotel. Not forgetting the Combiettes lift which serviced the blue run fir beginner's and we literally right outside the hotel.
The room were very spacious and warm, but with opening windows for some fresh air.We had a double which also contained a bed settee with an additional adjoining room containing another bed settee for our teenage son, again another spacious room. The bath was on the small side but the shower was powerful and hot water plentiful. The hairdryer was the usual hotel variety installed on the bathroom wall - totally useless for anyone with a decent head of hair, but the same in most hotels.
We had a valley view which was breathtakingly fabulous. There was noise of ploughs clearing the road outside the hotel from 7 am, but being on the 7th floor not too intrusive, but may bother some people.
The restaurant was phenomenal. Buffet starter, main courses alternating between waiter service and then a buffet so mixing things up a little. Delicious puddings and cheeses, yumsk. The variety and quality of food was second to none. The waitresses were very helpful. There was occasionally a queue to enter the restaurant at peak times.
The only disappointing aspect was the cost of drinks, which prevented a lot of guests from socialising in the bar and public areas of the hotel. The alternative being to buy wine or beer from the supermarket 2 minutes away and drink in your room.
There was no boot room, but we stored our own skis in the ski total shop just 2 minutes away from the hotel, not a problem as it was en route to the cachette ski lift.
Please don't be put off on your arrival to the hotel, as when you first enter, with your luggage it's via the staff access corridor which isn't used except for arrival and departures.

All in all, a really good hotel, superb food. Well positioned to access the rest of the mountain, 1800,1950,2000, Vallandry..... oh the skiing was the best too, with masses of snow, no queues for the lifts.

Take a travel kettle in

Just returned to Devon yesterday having had a fantastic ski holiday. Les Arc and la Plagne pistes are just delightful. The weather was good but best of all is la cachette hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the food really is delicious with a wide variety. I managed to leave something behind and after informing the hotel every effort was made to recover this item and an immediate and generous offer was made to return it to my home. I look forward to returning to la cachette very soon.

Room Tip: Higher floor piste side

Arrived at hotel around 2.30pm, booked in at reception to find we had been upgraded to a balcony room on top floor. (811). This room was ready so we went straight up and changed into skiwear and had a hours skiing on the free chairlifts.(free sat/sun).
Room had a double and a single bed. Desk and large TV. Bathroom and seperate WC.
Room overlooked the Commbettes chairlift.
Food as mentioned was out of this world....plenty of choice and quantity.
Staff always very pleasant and helpful.
Room warm, but radiators adjustable.
Lounge areas in hotel nice and comfortable, plenty of people sitting around reading books etc.
Piano in corner as well, for customers use.

Loved Arc 1600, think its the best of the bunch. Lovely tree lined runs for scenic skiing and poor visability. So easy to get to other areas from there.
We only went for the local Les Arcs lift pass, but that was ample. (we had skied in La Plagne, anyhow). much preferred 1600.
Do take the funicular down to Bourg, only takes 7 mins, covered with lift pass.
We are not apres ski people, so bar closing at 10pm did not bother us. In fact, i think we were in bed by then most nights, ready for the next days skiing.
Visited all areas, but still plenty of runs not covered, so definately will be coming again.
Booked with Crystal, very happy.
In all a lovely run hotel and will not hesitate to book again.

Room Tip: Higher floors less noisy...but balcony rooms you do hear the piste bashers, not that this bothered u...

Good Points - rooms overlooking slopes very nice and have a nice balcony- food very good especially the fish buffet on Sunday (included oysters and crab)- restaurant much nicer than Aguille Rouge at 2000 - Beds are very comfortable - Loads of cupboard space - Bathrooms very clean - Nice Bakery next to the hotel selling baguettes that you can make up for the day - crepes to have when you finish skiing - small supermarket next to hotel selling wine and beer - Not much apres ski in this area though - Skis are stored in Ski Set shop very close by which is fine and on the way to the slopes anyway. shop selling ski pass next to hotel if you dont want to buy from Crystal - Les Arcs excellent ski resort
Bad Points - rooms a little small - sometimes had to queue up to go into dinner for 5/10 mins
We paid around £500.00 for this holiday

Room Tip: Room overlooking the slopes - have a balcony to put drinks etc to keep cold

We were part of a group booking and overall enjoyed staying at La Cachette. We certainly enjoyed Les Arcs in total and will be going back, (1950 is the best/prettiest) but not a lot in 1600 and certainly nothing in 2000. BUT this review is about the Hotel and not Les Arcs.
The positives first are that SOME of the rooms are very good, we stayed in 611 and it had a lovely view of the piste/chairlift and a nice sized balcony. There are bigger rooms than this if you need one. The other rooms have great views of the valley facing Bourg St Maurice but don't have balconies so you only see the view if you're stood up!! Some rooms are tight for space so its worth checking your room before you book or at least as soon as you get there. One of our group changed and got a really good sized room with balcony too. The cleanliness is good throughout. The quality of the food is very good. You tend to get spoilt with the food offering on the first night that even included oysters and caviar! - they didn't re-appear! Reception staff are friendly and helpful too.
OK so now to the not so good bits that made it a 3* rating and not a 4
1. It doesn't have its own ski boot and ski storage room. A little odd really. You are offered to store your stuff at Skiset that is about 100 metres away. It's OK but not as easy when you've potentially a ski in/out hotel. You can just ski back but when you've then got to walk to store your stuff it slightly spoils it.
2. The Bar Team are a waste of space!! All they seem to want to do is get you out by 10pm - yes 10pm the hotel bar closes. Now if there were lots of other great bars locally it wouldn't matter but there aren't it's very limited to only two other bars.
3. The cost of drinks is steep - you might say typically French but a G&T is 8.30 and a bottle beer 5, and coke the same.
4. The room wasn't ready when we arrived on the Saturday. Not that good when you've arrived even later than you should through delayed flights. The Reception staff that I commented positively about above do try their best to push to get the rooms done but something isn't quite right there.
5. The childrens room doesn't look used and isn't supervised, although when we got there we were told the Crystal could have organised a Nanny service. Although we haven't got kids, a couple of the party had, and had we known this we wouldn't have had a group of 6 stay at La Plagne at Le Terra Nova!!
A decent hotel that needs to make a few improvements to get to 4* rating.

Room Tip: Rooms 611, 711, 811, and 615 are good........... suggest a request for a balcony if you like one.
