Villa Alpen never promised to be the best hotel. they have a small ski rental collection, hence it would be helpful if u message captain Nobuo of ur size before arrival. this hotel is a family business, started by Captain Nobuo's father...
before contacting villa Alpen directly, I have tried various booking sites like Agoda.com. No rooms available. my advise is to shoot a mail to the captain, he wil respond early next day. We didnt have to pay anything in advance, it's all based on trust.
on the room, it's mixed Jap/Western. 2 single beds, 1 sink, 1 WC, tatami area with a table and TV. we resorted to take the mattress of the bed and laid it on the tatami.
there is a lovely bar at reception area... my fav place. 1 pint of beer will only set u back ¥600, G&T about 450 i think... I tried the shiga Kogen beers and wine (jap merlot), ermmm... will let u discover this... i personally prefer the shoju, jap plum/apricot wine
Showers are in the basement, shared with other ladies. after that, u can choose to dip in the onsen. Make sure you are clean before that...
Anyways, Captain's son Ken speak good English and is a very motivating Ski Instuctor.
Have a great holiday :)
