Stayed here for 3 nights with a group of 14 people for a friends wedding.
Overall the hotel was excellent. When you step inside it is like stepping into a different world compared the most of Kochi. It is quiet, cool and clean!
We had a room overlooking the backwaters on the 14th floor and the view was very nice. The room itself was nice and spacious (we often had 8 of us in one room for drinks) and the bathroom was interesting in that the wall seperating the bed and the bathroom is made of glass (though thankfully there is an electric blind than can be lowered when needed). The room has all the modern conviences you would expect of a Crowne room (ipod dock, safe, flat screen TV with heaps of channels...)
The service provided by the bellboys/front desk and concierge staff was great.
One downside is that they do not have a liquor licence. They are happy for you to bring alcohol in, but sourcing alcohol in Kochi is surprisingly hard (don't take women to a bar there, and don't go by yourself. None of them felt safe). A major hotel just across the highway does have a liqour licence and the Crowne kindly provided free shuttle cars for the 15 of us to go there for a drink (it was raining so we didn't want to walk). We were impressed by this service.
The pool areas (there are two) are both nice, although they were a little slow to restock the towels.
The buffet breakfast was good (the mango milkshake was amazing) but the service was mixed. On one hand they were excellent at moving tables around and doing their best to accommodate such a large group (we never booked - we all just strolled in when we felt like it, and never at the same time as each other). On the other hand getting a coffee/eggs could be a bit slow. Overall I was pleased with the service, but some of my friends were getting impatient.
The other two negatives to mention are the fact that the hotel is not in a convenient location so you must catch a taxi/rickshaw everywhere (and the rickshaw drivers will charge a premium as the know you can afford it) and the hotel is so ultramodern that it doesn't have much of feel of India. Instead, it could be in any part of the world and have the exact same relatively sterile feel.
Overall I thought it was excellent and would happily recommend it. We ate many meals there without worrying about getting sick and there was not a mosquito insight (given we are westerners travelling in Monsoon season these are very big positives!)
