“Unethical”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

I stay at this hotel when I am in town on business. It is an acceptable hotel and is the only place worth staying in town.

My issue is that the rates vary depending on occupancy which I find highly unethical.

I have paid anywhere from $199-$249, which is a far cry from the advertised rate of $139.

Wow! We stayed at the 'Tumbler Ridge Inn' the first night we were in town and booked this hotel for the next day as soon as we realized what condition the motel was in. We were very pleased with the rooms, up keep and cleanliness! This place is the best place to stay at compared to the other hotels in Tumbler Ridge. It is a little expensive- but worth it!!! Clean bedding, clean bathrooms, you don't ear too much noise other than from the hallway. Great views from here too! Would definitely stay here again. Bring your own food too, there's a kitchen in the rooms! :)

Having said that, it is not a 4-star property but it is pretty good. Rooms are spacious. Free hot breakfast is included. WiFi was not working when I was there so ensure you check first. They used to have it and now they don't. Maybe coming back soon. (But they did offer to connect through LAN cable but iPads don't connect that way). Scrambled eggs, sausages and bacon are OK. Waffles are good if they don't stick (psst, Pam cooking spray would be useful). Toast, pastries, cereals, and juices all available. But coffee is dreadful - like a melted brown crayon in hot water. Weak!

The mines are working again which means that there are a lot of trucks in the parking lot. People are coming and going to shift work at all hours. Bring some earplugs if closing doors down the hall bother you. Otherwise, this is a very quiet hotel - I suppose due to workers sleeping at all hours. Workers leaving for shift or coming back from shift don't seem to talk much in the hallway. Very respectful.

The steakhouse is surprisingly good and open until midnight. Service, at least ours, was excellent but we were her only table at 9:30 pm in the restaurant. The lounge was a little noisy while eating but couldn't be heard in the hotel. But it is expensive - probably due to remoteness of the town and also it is a high-pay salary town (what the market will bear right?).

Although the hotel appears to be owned by one of the mines, it is very clean and maintenance staff are cleaning at all hours. There's just no wifi. Check for whether the Northern Lights are going to be bright at night then head north about 5 km to a turnout on west side of Hwy 52 and watch the lights. Spectacular usually from 11:30 pm when they are on.

Room Tip: It is a wood-based hotel. We were on top floor which meant no footsteps above. Might consider upper...

Best place to stay in Tumbler Ridge, it is the ex Best Western. I have used the hotel twice for 2 week periods. Hotel is modern, with an attached steakhouse restaurant. The rooms are spacious have a lounge and separate sleeping area with a TV in both areas. Usable kitchenette and bath shower. Great beds - a standout in the room and versus other hotels I have used.
Staff: helpful, easy going and friendly
Facilities: hotel has a reasonable gym, including free weights. Laundry is well used by hotel guests and can get congested. Parking at front and back. Wireless internet.
Restaurant: in building, basic steakhouse.
Tip: Try the Dragon Palace Chinese restaurant for a change of scene, a 5 minutes walk from the hotel.

Room Tip: Get a 2nd or 3rd floor room to avoid noise and early morning departures, at the ends of the hotel...

We stayed here for 2 nights in September.
The rooms are very comfortable and clean.Breakfast was OK , but replenishing the stocks would make it perfect!
Only gripe was the other guests smoking around the main entrance.
The staff were friendly and dogs were made welcome!
WE liked the steak house, it made it all very convenient.

In my opinion, this property is definitely the nicest place to stay in Tumbler Ridge. The rooms are clean, beds are comfy and staff are friendly. I was a little disappointed in the gym. Plenty of equipment but the room was a little neglected. Very peaceful and a pretty good selection of breakfast cereals, toast and fruit before getting on with the day. I stayed in one of the rooms with a king bed which is in a separate room from the kitchenette and living room area. Good office/desk space as well. The internet was a little spotty but if one is desperate... apparently the reception is always good in the lobby/breakfast room. At $149 it might be a little pricey for pleasure but definitely a good investment for the business traveler or worker. Now.. if I could only find a decent restaurant in the town!

My wife and I stayed at the Days Inn which is now the Best Western in Tumbler Ridge during our trip to Alaska. Our car broke down on our way to Kinisuo Falls and we ended up spending two nights here. First of all the service was great! There were two gentleman that managed the entire hotel and they were very kind and courteous and very helpful throughout our stay there.

The hotel room was very clean and comfortable to stay. There's breakfast included which is served 6am to 10am. Overall, great experience. Highly recommended that if you're headed towards Dawson Creek, detour to Tumbler Ridge, check out the Falls and the Dinosaur Trecks and spend a night at the Best Western!
