“Business trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2013

I enjoyed the service and personal touch received from Denis and Gail and especially the early morning mountain bike ride that takes you along the Crocodile river with excellent game watching opportunities in the river and in the park itself. I would definitely recommend Needles Lodge and return on my next trip to the area.

Hi Aisie,
The bike ride with you was great! Nothing better than an early morning ride along the Crocodile River to start the day! Thank you very much for choosing Needles Lodge and taking the time to do a great review for us. We look forward to seeing you in January.
Best regards
Denis & Gail

We chose to stay at Needles based on Tripadvisor reviews and its location close to Kruger as well as Swaziland and Mozambique.

The lodge is located in Marloth Park near the Crocodile Bridge entrance to Kruger. It’s about a 30 minute drive to the park. The lodge itself is very comfortable and somewhat secluded ,allowing the animals to literally be just outside your doorstep. Every morning we would wake up wondering what animals would be waiting for us. We had zebra, kudu, warthogs and even a giraffe one morning across the road. You can pay ten times more for some lodges near Kruger and never get that experience.

Denis and Gail were wonderful hosts and could not have been any nicer. We felt more like family than guests at their lodge. The staff was also very courteous and the meals were all delicious. The bush babies provide the entertainment during dinner.

All the trips Denis arranged for us-including Kruger twice, Swaziland and Mozambique- were excellent and I would recommend all of them if you are in the area. Denis arranged a private game drive into Kruger and the guide (Dylan) was great as well.
Overall, we couldn’t find any faults. We have been all over southern Africa many times and have never been so close to the wildlife or felt so welcomed. In our opinion, this is the best value safari you’ll find in Africa. Thank you Denis and Gail.

We really enjoyed our experience at needles.
the food, the host, the location,.. everything was great.
We were very satisfied with everything.
The best was the dinner:
Denis (the owner) always put multiple pieces of banana on the rail of the patio. After a few minutes we seen some bushbabys grabbing those banana pieces, lovely!
We had two great nights at needles!
thank you Denis!

We had been looking all around Kruger for somewhere to stay on our honeymoon and after reading reviews and seeing some of the images we chose Needles, it didn't disappoint!!
The lodge is easy to find after a long drive from Johannesburg and the staff very welcoming. The rooms were excellent and the food was amazing. We joined the other guests every night for dinner and shared our stories and photos from the day, it is like and extended family which changes every night around the dinner table. The atmosphere was relaxed and the only noise was the local wildlife coming for a wonder past.
When we saw the pictures on line we thought maybe the animals would come past, hopefully once, during our stay - but that was an understatement!!! The lodge has zebras, bush babies, wilder beast, mongoose, wart hogs and many other wild animals coming up to the lodge day and night, to say this was amazing was an understatement!!
I would highly recommend Needles for a safari as Kruger was only 20mins away and the lodge owner organises all the trips into the park for you (book before you arrive).
We wanted a safari that we would never forget for our honeymoon and Needles gave us every thing we wanted and more.

We were a group of 6 lousy brazilian on holidays, and we all enjoyed our stay at Needles Lodge.
The place is fantastic, the rooms are excellent, the food is incredible, the atmosphere is really cozy.We were surrounded by lovely wild animals, that joined us for dinner and even when we were at the pool.
But what really made the difference were Denis and Gail. So nice, kind, courteous and attentive! Made us feel so comfortable, even though we were a little disturbing!
And Vuzi, the chef, an amazing cook with a great smile!
Thank you all for giving us such a pleasant time!

We stayed at Needles under the previous owner/manager and enjoyed it. But Dennis (and now Gail) have made it even better. Great rooms, lovely spacious great room in the lodge, and wonderful food. Kudos (the compliment kind) to Vuzi, the master chef kept on from before. The service is great. Thanks Tandi and Freda. And a special thanks to Dennis and Gail for their great hospitality. A wonderful place to chill out, enjoy the bush, and have the kudo, zebra, warthogs, giraffe, and bush babies come to you. And Dennis knows his wildlife, especially birds.Like the formerly named Gray Lurie, you will Go Away a happy bird.
