“Better than I could have imagined....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

I just returned home from a 6nite stay at Needles Lodge. I knew it was a great place from a friend's recommendation, but it was better than i even imagined. Denis the owner is cordial, warm and friendly. The lodge is it's. own little piece of paradise with the zebra, giraffes, warthogs and kudus that stop by often. We really enjoyed their company while we relaxed before during or after our meals, which were elegantly prepared for and served by Denis and his delightful staff. We also met Dylan, who was our guide for the dal long game drives and his knowledge and personility made for a few of the best days of our life! We are already planning our next visit, same time next year!!!

Room Tip: needles is a small lodge i think any room is fine

My husband and I had a wonderful few nights at the Needles Lodge. Upon arrival, Dennis, the owner, welcomed us in with drinks and a wonderful tour of the lodge. It is a beautiful lodge. Every day and most evenings wild animals would come right up to the back deck! We saw warthogs, wildebeest, giraffes, and zebras right up close. We even got to feed carrots to the zebras. Dinners were top notch. The chef made wonderful dishes and came out to greet us during the meal. Dinners were eaten outside on a big deck. You can eat with your own party or family style to meet the other guests. We enjoyed eating with the other guests. Everyone came from other countries and it was nice to hear everyone's stories from the day.
Dennis made sure all of our safari trips were good to go and gave us recommendation on how to see the park the best. He even got up at 4am to days in row just to make us fresh tea and biscuits before embarking on our long day of safariing. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and open up right to the outside. It is nice to be able to look for animals right from your room.
All in all, our stay was wonderful and the hospitality exceeded our expectations. We were very grateful for Dennis and all of his help in making our time at Kruger Park wonderful!

Me and my husband have just spent one night at Needles Lodge before doing our self-drive in Kruger National Park. Needles Lodge and Marloth Park is a very special place. If you are like me who loves animals and enjoys the up and close contact and interaction with animals, you will really love this place! As soon as we arrived, there were about eight giraffes just behind the lodge and a blue wildebeest lying in the yard. I just could not contain my excitement! There were so many different animals come and visit the lodge. Unlike the Kruger National Park where you drive around to find animals, at Needles, all you have to do is just relax and the animals come to visit you! We saw warthogs, zebras, kudus, Guineafowls, bushbabies, giraffes, wildebeest during our short one night stay! Like all the other reviews, Dennis is such a wonderful host. At dinner and breakfast, everyone eats at the same table and Dennis engages in conversation with every guest and genuinely spends time to get to know everyone. The food was delicious and the staff were all friendly. The room was beautiful too. The only regret I have is that I only had a short one night stay at Needles Lodge. I was missing this place as soon as we left, even when we were self-driving in Kruger National Park! I definitely plan to come back for another visit soon! Our stay was short, but it was wonderful and unforgettable! Thank you Dennis and all the best for your upcoming wedding!

Needles Lodge came highly recommended and we were not disappointed. My children (aged 9,11 and 14) who are more used to computers, gadgets and city life described it as the best holiday ever. They loved the constantly changing range of animals visiting the lodge. They especially loved the excellent food. Thank you so much for preparing such delicious vegetarian options - we were extremely impressed. Highlights were the bile rides through the park, the proximity to Kruger, and the chance to disect a snake. This was a fabulous place to stay and I would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great.

We have just arrived from South Africa and it was the perfect place to stay and visit Kruger Park!!! Dennis, Sandy and all the team are AMAZING and the place is WONDERFUL!!! It is placed in a small park next to the Kruger so you can go to the Kruger and in your free time enjoy Marloth Park (it has all kind of animals except the "dangerous" ones!) or do different day trips (it is close to Blyde River Canyon, Mozambique and Swazilandia). From here you can go on safari to Kruger by yourself (you would need a car) or ask them to organize a safari for you (we did a great full day safari!). We can not forget to mention that the dinners are INCREDIBLE... wonderful food & wine, beautiful veranda, nice conversations, zebras, kudus, water hogs, wildebeests... it was one of the best moments of the day!!! If you have free time we recommend to rent the bikes and go for a ride around Marloth Park (ask Dennis to go with you and show you the path close to the Kruger Park´s fence!!! you can ride while you watch elephants, hippos, crocodiles....). For sure that we will try to go back to the Kruger and to Needles Lodge...

We stayed three nights at the Needles Lodge in August. We enjoyed great food and company. And there is no need to go into Kreuger to get animal action - zebras, wildebeests and warthogs are right at the doorstep. There are a few quirks, like the open-door bathrooms and the common meals. But that did not stop us from having a terrific stay. Keep up the good work Denis!

Dear Lars,

It was great having you and Brid spend a few days with us. Thank you for taking the time to do a review. Guess what? We actually installed privacy doors between the room and bathroom last week as this has been brought up before. I apologise if you thought it was an obligation to eat at a communal table; we do allow you to eat with your partner if you request it! We’ll make sure of it for your next visit. Kind regards, Denis & the Needles team.
