“Fantastic Holiday Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

Our family stayed with Danie and Louise for a few weeks at 677 Hornbill. Everything was arranged perfectly for us. Louise met us to show the place - a lovely private location surrounded by nature. The house was ideal - 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Great for a small family. Louise had provided us with a delicious meal on arrival so we didn't have to worry about food the first evening. The house has everything that you need for a relaxing break, including a small splashpool to cool off in during the afternoon heat. Anytime we needed anything, Danie or Louise stopped by quickly to help us out. We have to say that Louise responded to any e-mail or text message almost immediately which really made us feel secure and in good hands.

The area is a perfect base for exploring Kruger - only a short drive to the Crocodile Bridge Gate. In addition, Marloth Park has all sorts of animals wandering around - so you might see giraffes, zebras, kudu and others coming for a visit at the house.

Louise sorted out any trips that we wanted to do on top of the usual self-drive safari. Our favourites were the early morning bush walk with guides in the park and the night drive and bush BBQ. Outstanding experiences!

Many thanks to Louise and Danie for making the holiday so easy and comfortable. Well worth recommending!

Fabulous two month stay with Danie and Louise at a couple of their properties in Marloth Park!!
We arrived at the end of October to stay at 677 Hornbill for a month in a self catering house with beautifull linen, bedding, braii area and outdoor fire area just perfect for the Poitjkie pot :) On arrival we were met personally by them at the house ( never before in marloth had this happened!) a welcome change and were shown where everything was from the lights, to the wood supplied for the braii and fire etc. The kitchen cupboards were supplied with olive oil and nearly any type of spice you could desire. Milk in the fride, tea bags, espresso coffee beans and machine!! What service :)

They organised for our friends to take a walk into Kruger and a night Drive with dinner under the stars in the dead of night in Kruger!! The cleaning staff namely Pummi and her trusty helpers were absolutely magnificent in the cleaniliness and friendliness that they supplied. An overall Magical time spent there with numerous visitors from either the Warthogs, Giraffe, Kudu, Zebra, Hornbills, Genets and Bush Babys most days. The house being in Marloth park is in such close proximity to Kruger National Park which is about a 15 minute drive to the Crocodile Bridge Gate we tried to go every third day at least!!

We then Moved into Khaya Romantica for a week which is just absolutely stunning with its Lekker pool, amazing Braii area, fabulous hand made wooden furniture, stunning views over the tree tops into Kruger, and the usual hospitality of the staff and of course Danie and Lousie. Also the usual generosity with the spices and i forgot to mention the water also supplied was in abundance!!The house was much larger than Hornbill and would be perfect for families as there are three large bedrooms all ensuite with the exquisite bedding and linen, huge lounge room upstairs complete for dstv for those lazy days and huge veranda upstairs leading off the lounge complete with gas braii. Even though we were only a couple the house just felt so magical and the bush babys every night here were just fabulous :)

We got to take a peek at Khaya Umdani as well which was absolutely stunning a must for those of you with larger groups!!!!! Just beautifull you will just have to go and see for yourself.

Danie and Louise as hosts were courteous, helpfull, full of knowledge and only too willing to help you with anything at all. Always a smile and a laugh with them just absolutely amazing and wonderfull people. You will be so lucky and thankfull if you get to meet them and stay with them in any of the properties they own or run.

Thanks again Danie and Louise you made our holiday an absolutely amazing time with a trip to Maputo wow!! And a trip over the border to Sun City restaurant in the middle of a village!!

A wonderful setting and lived up to expectations presented in website. Friendly owners and staff happy to help you make the most of your stay. Within easy reach of Kruger Park. We were a family of 5 adults and 4 children (all under age of 12).

What a great luxury bush house. We were 4 adults and 5 children. Attention to detail, location, etc. We made use of the self catering facility in the house. Fully equiped kitchen, you can cook for a King! Half an hour drive to Crocodile Bridge Gate in the Kruger National park, seperated by the Crocodile River. Great accommodation when you want to visit the Kruger national park.

We just got back from an amazing week celebrating my 50th birthday at Khaya Umdani. Traveling from America the idea of living in the bush was totally foriegn to us and we had little idea of what to expect. What we found was a clean modern home in the heart of the African wild. What a pleasure to return from game drives in Kruger to the comfort of this beautiful lodge with delicious meals expertly prepared by Larika and Louis. The layout allowed 12 people enough privacy and space to relax and enjoy the daily visits of Warthogs, Impalas, Monkeys and Zebras.
Would highly recommend allowing Laurika to fix your evening meals and Loiuse to set your itinerary. The game drives in Kruger, the Panoramic Route and the night drive with bush braai are not to be missed.
We will always remember the week we spent at Khaya Umdani, the new friends we made and the things we saw.
You could definitely spend more on "5 star luxury lodges" but you would gain little and miss the intimacy and the friendliness of Khaya Umdani. A true Afrcan bush experience.

My husband and I really could not have asked for a better end to our 2 week stay in South Africa. Khaya Umdani was the perfect house & jumping off point for our 5 day safari adventure!

The house is located just a few miles outside of Kruger National Park in a private park called Marloth. Marloth backs up against Kruger at the Crocodile River, so we thoroughly enjoyed taking walks down to the river & viewing animals up close & safely behind Marloth's fence. The house sits on a beautiful piece of property with was equipped with everything you could possibly need. And because there are no property fences, you would see giraffe, zebra, impala, warthogs, etc grazing in your yard on a daily basis. Not to mention the monkeys - we saw a huge family of vervet monkeys & also the most adorable bushbabies!

The house was truly amazing, but it was the service that made the stay exceptional! Louise was such a great hostess - she helped us with for weeks in advance of our trip with excursion & food options, and when we arrived, she had a bottle of sparkling cider on hand as a welcome drink. Laurika and her husband (the caretakers) were the nicest, most genuine people. Laurkia met us at the house when we arrived, and we had planned in advance for her to cook for us that evening since we were arriving in the evening. Do NOT miss Laurika's cooking - she is the BEST cook (ran a restaurant in her past life). And also really great company! Additionally, the cleaning staff were great - always so nice & thoughtful!

If you are looking for a place to stay that rivals the luxury of some of the private game reserves, you should definitely consider Khaya Umdani. All of the little touches really made this house & our trip special. We thoroughly enjoyed having the house all to ourselves, having dinners on the porch just the two of us, etc. And the excursions that Louise has contacts for are simply amazing - we took advantage of a full day game drive, a morning bush walk, and a night drive. All were fantastic, but do not miss the full day game drive with the guide Grobus! He spent a full 12 hours with us (it was just the two of us in his open air vehicle) and was so accommodating & educated on everything around us. We wanted to stay another day just to go out with him again on another game drive!

All in all, this was a trip of a lifetime and Khaya Umdani and Louise/Laurika just made it that much more special. We will definitely be back in the near future, and we would not pass up the opportunity to stay in Marloth again! Thank you Louise for sharing your beautiful house with us!

There were nine of us who werent related to eachother, yet the accommodation was perfect. We recieved a very warm welcome from Lurika our resident cook. The accommodation was suberb, the attention to detail and the facilities were super. Lurika and her husband were genuine warm and caring hosts who didnt get under you feet but were there if you needed anything.

The food was excellent.
The giraffe walking past the bottom of the garden and the warthogs in the morning made this a real bush experience

I would definately come back here and would recommend anyone with a large party to come too.

The directions from the google map to find the house were difficult to understand so I would recommend phoning your host once you enter into Marloth Park as it was a really big place.
