Trilye, near Mudanya on the Marmara coast, is not the kind of place you'd spend a whole holiday in, but it's a great stopover on a tour of the Marmara/Aegean area, or for a bit of peace and quiet while staying in Istanbul. The Trilyalı Butik Hotel is probably the best place to stay in Trilyalı - it is also probably the most expensive, but the difference in price is not great (the whole area is a little pricy by Turkish standards) and you do get your money's worth. It's a restored late Ottoman mansion, which makes the faux antique furniture in the rooms unobjectionable. There is no restaurant but the hotel owns a cafe just outside which serves an excellent breakfast (included in the price).
The location is excellent, with wonderful sea views. There are several good fish restaurants just down the road. Walk up the hill and you are in the middle of Trliye; walk a little further along the seafront and there are stalls selling great local produce (olives, olive oil, jam etc. - ask for Arzu Hanım). The only drawback is the lack of a good beach. There's a patch of shingle next to the hotel from where you can enter the sea, but I'd hesitate to call it a beach, and a larger but rather dirty beach-like area at the other end of the waterfront, but if you want a proper beach, you'll need to go down the road to Mudanya.
