“Fantastic mini break at bargain price. Well done Black Bull.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

Was a little bit worried as I'd seen the reviews on here before we went- but although the points mentioned in previous reviews are apparent- they're no way near as bad as described, and when you think about what you're getting, for the price, I think some people need to be more realistic. (I assume everyone staying here is on Wowcher or Groupon?!) basically, £40 per night for the 2 of us. A pokey B&B would have been minimum £60 a night nearby, so get real everybody!
We arrived on the Friday night, and were shown to our room. We had the family room, which was, erm, interesting! Rooms were spectacularly clean, shower was exceptionally powerful, bed comfy, but the decor leaves something to the imagination!! Bedroom very tasteful, but the 'living room' was somewhat an eye-sore, to the extend we decided to stay out of it! It had the feeling that we were in my student flat from yesteryear- with odd leather sofa, black wall and purple feature wall... All on chipboard. The TV was in there, was a good size, but no DVD player, in case you were looking forward to that... Didn't bother us though, as we weren't there to watch TV. Noise wasn't really an issue, and while we were there they had a live band, which had finished by 11. Was a good band, and didn't disturb us. After the band left I wasn't aware of any pub activity on either night.
Breakfasts were nice and a good portion. Lots of choice of cereal.
So yes, you will have a nice stay here, it's great and cosy- sorry I nagged about the decor, but it was the only gripe :)
We hope to return.

We had a two day break here and were very impressed, the staff, room, food and location was superb.Well worth a visit.
Can't wait to go again. The village is an absolute gem, with the village green looking great. The Black Bull has a history by photographs on its wall - brilliant.

My partner and I had a 2-night stay at this hotel very recently. We thought it was absolutely great. The room was clean and very comfortable, the breakfasts were lovely (a good start to the day) and the staff were very helpful and friendly. To be fair, there was a bit of noise from the bar at night but, it's a pub - what can you expect - and it didn't bother us at all. We had a problem with a flat tyre on our car and they very quickly found someone that had an inflator we could borrow - great service. We had also decided to get the bus into Hexham and enquired with staff about the timetable - the owner, Kevin, overheard and kindly offered to take us in as he was just about drive there. For a pleasant stay in a cosy village Pub/B&B, this is ideal and the location is perfect. I'm sure we'll be back.

Me and my girlfriend stayed at the Black Bull Inn on the 7th and the 8th of June for a well deserved weekend break. Before we arrived we checked out the reviews on here and were a little apprehensive as the reviews were very mixed. I must say, i don't know what some people expect in a Pub / B&B as we absolutely loved it! The room was very cosy and clean with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. The food was lovely and the full English breakfast was just enough to start your day, it was delicious! The pub atmosphere was amazing, everyone was really friendly and no one batted an eye lid even though it was our first time there. Last but not least, the staff, especially Liz were amazing, they couldn't do enough for you and Liz really went out of her way to help you (thank you so much Liz!). All in all if you fancy a lovely country break and have 'that' traditional country pub to have a cracking night in then this is for you. We are already looking to go back to this lovely place! Ian & Kate.

Room Tip: Room 1 was our room and it was lovely!

Just returned from a break at this hotel, nice setting, room clean but that is all I found impressive! If you want to be kept up all hours listening to a band or disco or just hearing the locals getting more more leary in the small hours then this is the place for you.If you want to take your girlfriend/wife on a nice break for a few days then forget it you will end up disappointed like we were!
The food is just average and the breakfast basic, the telly is not much larger than a tablet and you have to have the volume on full to drown out the noise from downstairs!
When I left the whole bar smelt of stale beer the place is basically an overrated bed and breakfast!
Just two small points Wark is in the Hexham area but actually 12miles away and there is no mobile phone signal.
This is the second time in the last few months that I have been disappointed with reviews on trip advisor!

Not often we respond but felt this time we should. This guest arrived a day early for his booking and on the night he should not have been staying with us we had a band playing. The other six rooms that were staying with us had been notified in advance that there would be a band on that night for two hours and were happy to sit in the bar enjoying the music. If this guest had NOT arrived a day early for his booking he would not have had to deal with the noise from the band and to blame other trip advisor comments for his bad experience is ridiculous!! The guest himself is the one at fault for not making sure he had his dates correct to begone with and extremely unappreciative of all the extra work that our staff had to do to cater to his early arrival in the first place

Just back from a nice weekend away at the Black Bull. This place is great value and therefore we weren't expecting the Ritz. That said we weren't disappointed one bit. Our room was cosy, quiet, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was lovely (homemade pies and real chips!! And butchers sausages at breakfast). All in all we had a great time. Thanks
