“Resort, mall, hotel in one location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013 via mobile

Great 2 floors room. The biggest hotel room we have ever stayed in japan. We got a spacious kitchen and living room. We love the bathroom so much! We understand why they call themselves anti-aging resort. They pamper you with everything in one place so that everything is just a step away. Sad that we only stay for a night here.

Summer was not the peak season for this ski resort, so the hotel seemed quieter. Stayed in a western twin room at North Wing. Room was spacious and bed was comfortable. Their buffet was probably the best I had in Hokkaido. The crab legs served were so much bigger than those provided by other onsen hotels. There was endless supply of melons as well.
There was shopping street, arcades, theme park, spa & golf courses in the resort. The theme park was not in operation so not sure when is it opened. We took the monorail to check out Rusutsu Tower, and it seemed to be much newer.

We stayed in The Tower in a suite. The staff were excellent on arrival and were friendly and efficient. The room furnishings are out dated but was still comfortable. We enjoyed the extra space of the suite. We enjoyed catching the monorail to go out for dinner and to go skiing. Breakfast in the tower was average but that was probably because of my taste and not so keen on the Japanese style breakfast. We hired ski gear in the Tower and that service was great. Ski gear was great quality. Would recommend staying there to anyone keen for quieter slopes.

We stayed at Rusutsu Tower which was a separate building across the road (almost 600 meters) from the North/South wings where majority of the restaurants, shops and ski school were located. At first we found it inconvenient to travel from the tower to the main resort via mono rail (amusement park like mono rail) with our skiis and boards. But after getting oriented with the resort it was actually fine. We had a family room which was very big with two floors and 4 separate beds and huge living room to store our ski gears. The tower side is newer and quieter and the onsen was excellent with an outdoor pool. We tried the onsen on the North wing and it was basically a large public bath house with very old facilities and no outdoor pool. That was when we realized we made the right choice in staying at the tower. Ski school is excellent with English speaking instructors. The slopes are great as they are much wider that the ones in Niseko, great for beginner/intermediate level skiiers/boarders. The negatives are: lockers are small; need to be patient with seating in restaurants when there is long queue (especially during breakfast), we were in a situation which there were vacant tables and the staff just wouldn't let people sit until the manager gives the ok. Other than these little thngs we had a good time and would recommend for families that are looking for a relaxing ski vacation. The other beauty is it is 1.5 hours away from New Chitose airport which is half the distance to Niseko.

Room Tip: Tower side is newer and quieter. But if you like to be with the crowd North/South wings are better...

Large interconnected resort offering plenty of dining options, spa, indoor heated pool and even an indoor amusement park. The ski slopes are immediately at the doorstep of the hotel. Ski facilities I.e ski rental, lockers etc are inside the hotel. Good quality and good value rentals. Good sized rooms. Excellent service. Lots of activities for skiers and non skiers of all ages.

My only issue is that I don't like being couped up in a resort and would like to see a bit of the real Japan. This is more a rusutsu issue than a hotel issue.

The ski slopes are great. I'd come back.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

We stayed here along with 2 other American families on the last ski weekend of the year in early April. First, the good was that the skiing was outstanding, the ski lessons for our children were excellent, no lift lines, well organized rentals, lockers, ski in/ski out, etc. The kids also loved the wave pool and the water slide and the sledding option.

The bad is that there were only 2 restaurants open (which we were not informed of beforehand so the eating situation was extremely limited) and the hotel itself is very dated - like a 1985 Holiday Inn, although very clean. There are no apres ski or nightlife options, other than a very strange cocktail lounge that charges a cover charge even thought it is empty most of the time.

We spent 5 amazing days in Rusutsu in early February. The hotel is the only place to stay that is right on the mountain. It's very nice. This seems to be a Japanese family destination, so join in with the kiddies and ride the carousel just off the lobby, sing with the singing tree and boogie down Daniel Street. The hotel is a 4 star resort with what you would expect for 4 stars. The staff are extremely helpful, hindered only by our poor Japanese. There is a huge onsen at the hotel, stocked with Shisedo products, which we used every night. There is good storage for skis and boards etc. I struggled a bit with the food at the resort - there's a lot of fried stuff, pork etc which I don't eat. We did book a non-smoking room, but our room smelled terribly of smoke. The staff did do some ozone thing to get rid of it, which worked for a while, but the smell came back. When you're not used to the smell of smoke it's dreadful. However, the snow made up for any shortcomings and I would definitely head there again.

Room Tip: If you are requesting a non smoking room, I suggest you check out exactly what that means.
