“Superb accommodation with wonderful views and a central location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

We recently spent a week in Cava Lodge, which is modern, well-equipped and spotlessly-clean and has views across Scapa Flow that are to die for. It is well situated roughly half way between Kirkwall and Stromness which made touring the mainland very easy. The owner, Margaret, is a lovely lady who made us very welcome. Our only regret is that we stayed for just one week: next time we will go back for two, and will definitely be staying in one of the lodges when we do.

Just spent a great week, in one of the Lodges. The accommodation is excellent and is kept to a very high standard. There is a spectacular view over the parish of Orphir and looking out across Scapa Flow. A lovely sight to wake up to each day. This is an excellent base for a stay in Orkney, as both the main towns of Kirkwall and Stromness are only a short drive away. The owner, Margaret, is an excellent host. You get a very warm welcome and she will go out of her way to help in any way she can. Thanks for that Margaret and we'll see you next time!! Mark, Mairi & Bairns.

We stayed here for four wonderful nights, the lodges are absolutely beautiful, so clean & fresh with views to die for. The owner Margaret is a lovely lady who made us feel so welcome even though we arrived rather late. Thank you so much Margaret we will be back.

This was our favorite accommodation of our two week trip around Scotland. The lodge was modern, clean and well set up. We cooked during our stay there and had everything we needed. I recommend walking up the hill behind the lodges and enjoying some of the walking paths... gorgeous views of the islands.

Stayed for a long weekend in November and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The standard of fittings and furnishings is excellent and made our stay very comfortable. Plenty of space, well designed, great kitchen fittings and fantastic shower! Thanks very much Margaret!

Stayed for a week with my parents and enjoyed every minute, brilliant views, bathrooms where lovely, great kitchen facilities, and lovely beds, I could have slept for weeks. Lots of things to see and do on Orkney, wish we had longer so we could have seen and done even more!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

We arrived quite late & tired (I think 10 p.m.) - and Margaret gave us a very warm welcome, so our 2 week holiday started really good.

We found the lodges perfectly clean and tidy. They are quite new & modern, and I really liked the interior.

We were 7 persons and had the two connected lodges Fara & Cava. It's a pity only Cava has one large bathroom with a bathtub. Fara has two smaller bathrooms with two showers.

The lodges are sufficient spacious, but not really huge. With 7 persons dining in one lodge, a larger table would have been helpful.

The upstairs lounge areas are very special. We took the one or the other dram upstairs while the kids were playing downstairs. However, unfortunately the view is not too good upstairs.

Speaking of the view: The view is !! stunning !! Check their website for pictures or check Google street view. It's really amazing. The only issue is the power line... It'll take some time to retouch the photos to get rid of it :).

We bought ourselves a cheap barbecue grill (if you’re lucky it’s still there) and we did barbecue as often as possible. It’s just amazing to sit outside, eat and enjoy the view over Scapa Flow.

The kitchen is sufficiently equipped. Again: with 7 persons some more dishes would have been helpful. We had to carry dishes from the one lodge to the other all the time... :)

The place is rural and quiet.

You can find a playground in Orphir, about 1 or 2 miles from the lodges. And it's about 15 minutes (10 miles) to Kirkwall or Stromness.

I think Scapa Flow offers great value for money. Thanks to Margaret for the hospitality. Hopefully next time we’ll see the place with some more _sunny_ days, because the weather was the only real problem...
