“If you go looking for the Viking Centre you won't find it, its called the Orkneyinga Saga Centre”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

And you need to find it because its an excellent little centre. Self guided tour with detailed information boards, film telling the story of the Sagas and the Viking Earls, you press the button to start it so can watch it at your leisure and its free admission. The adjoining Earl's Bu is worth a visit too.

Exams were taking place in the building so we didnt' get to see much. We did manage to see a short film later in the day and this was very helpful.

“A delightful surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013 via mobile

I can honestly say I was not looking forward to this, but it was terrific. It was totally unmanned. Informative and used modern examples to illustrate points with humour. It was well thought out and so clean.

“Nice place.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013

The Viking centre in Orphir presents the history of the Orkneyinga Saga. Be sure you don't miss the churchyard behind the centre which will connect you to the Orphir walk and some nice views of the coast.

“Big Ships”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

The workmanship that went into building these ships is mind boggling. The details that have survived that we are still able to see are beautiful. They are hugh ships!
