“Tranquil oasis for Brecon visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2014

Beautiful and spotlessy clean accommodation in the south of the Brecons. Great base to explore this fantastic area, breathtaking nature as well as industrial history. Mike and Caroline are outstanding hosts who will give great advice on walks and attractions in the region as well as maps to guide you. Perfect if you love nature, a quiet life and no noisy near distraction other than the sheep and cuckoo! We were spoilt with the tasty home made cake slices and biscuits and the breakfast choice is extensive and tasty. Thoroughly recommend if you love nature, and peaceful suroundings. Will be returning again.

Thank you both for the glowing review. It was a real pleasure to have you both to stay and we would be delighted to welcome you back. June is a fantastic month to visit with the extra daylight, and coupled with the full moon, meant that the out and about exploring hours were longer, and my word you packed such a lot into your holiday. We're glad you enjoyed yourselves, and appreciated what we do to help guests. Best wishes to you both. See you again soon. Mike & Caroline

Location - this place met my location criteria for a B&B located in the park, which is to say you actually are fully in the park and not in the middle of a village or town. Located very close to the waterfall walks and to the mountain. When you look out your window and all you see is hillsides and sheep, you actually feel that you're in the park.

Facility - This barn conversion has been done in a very comfortable rustic fashion with very nice rooms (we stayed in two of the three) and a very accommodating common area. The photos online don't really do justice to the size and warmth of the common area in the evening when there's a fire going. The grounds are immaculate and the garden has a very quaint stream running through it.

Service - Mike & Caroline were both amazing hosts. Mike at us up with an ordnance survey, waterproof map holder, a compass, and turn by turn directions he had written up of the whole 10 mile waterfall hike. He then lit up a fire for us after our long rainy day. Caroline makes her own homemade jams and jellies which you can try at breakfast and by from her very cheaply.

Bottom line - This little place was by far one of the best B&B's I've ever been to and sadly I was only there for two night, wished it could have been a lot longer than that.

Hello Adam P, thank you very much for the lovely review. We are indeed in the heart of the countryside with no near neighbours, and a long walk or a 10 minute drive to any shops or services. This means you can sit in the garden and listen to the breeze in the trees and grasses, the water running over pebbles in the stream, and the garden birds calling to each other. It makes this place totally relaxing and guests frequently comment about how well they sleep.
It was great to meet you all, and we are very glad you enjoyed yourselves. Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in the UK. Warmest wishes Mike & Caroline

Extremely welcoming hosts, ready with very helpful advice on where to go for food and walks . Lovely remote setting but easy to find. Room very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Breakfast (including vegetarian) excellent. Big and very comfortable separate guest lounge, with wood burner, books, maps etc. Homemade cake with the kettle, tea etc. in the room and unlimited extra fresh milk in a fridge in the dining room. We will definitely be going back.

Hi Warren H, what a fantastic review, thank you so very much. We very much enjoyed meeting you both, and we're very glad you enjoyed your stay with us, and appreciated what we do. I recall you enjoyed one of the waterfall walks whilst you were here. We did one ourselves yesterday just to remind ourselves, and the bluebells were fantastic, you could smell the scent right along the valley. It would be delightful to welcome you back again sometime. Kind regards Mike & Caroline

We have a 18 month daughter and I can honestly say that the three of us have not had 3 uninterrupted nights in succession for a very long time. And I put that down squarely to the beautiful location, the relaxing atmosphere of the guest-house, the country air and the hearty breakfasts provided by Mike & Caroline! We left feeling happy and refreshed and that we'd been away for a month! Would definitely recommend a stay.

Hello JS Naughton, what a fantastic review, you have certainly made our day. It was truly delightful to have you to stay, so if you are visiting this way again, please come again. I suspect the long days of being outdoors and consequently exhausted toddler helped your sleep :-) although I won't argue that this is a very peaceful location. We call it Beili Helyg time, nothing can be rushed and somehow you don't want to rush, you just want to relax, soak up the views, and breathe deeply. Thank you again. Warmest regards Mike & Caroline

Two gracious, caring owners who make sure your stay will be enjoyable. Nicely placed for access to Brecon Beacons, the Big Big Coal Mine and the Penderyn single malt distillery. Need to pay attention on the single lane access road but once there, all is well.

Hi Geoffrey H, many thanks for the review, we were really pleased to meet you both and enjoyed your company. Our road is a little narrow in places, but there are lots of passing places, and there are no weight or speed restrictions on it. Providing you aren't in a hurry, it's fine. It's worth noting that there are no paint markings or cats eyes, or street lamps on the lane so it is properly dark when there is no moon at night, but the fantastic night skies make up for it. Thank you again. Kind regards, Mike & Caroline

We stayed here overnight to do some walking in Brecon and what a lovely find! Just up the road from the Penderyn whiskey distillery, through quite a long B road, you suddenly feel you are well into the Beacons.
Set in stunning scenery and fantastic accommodation which had a truly wonderful lounge with plenty of books, maps and advice on walks from fabulous hosts Mike and Caroline! This was truly a home from home experience, topped with a fantastic breakfast and home made jams and marmalades! We will definitely be going back!

Hello Chris K, thank you for the lovely review, you are very kind. We are indeed a little of the beaten track, and in the heart of the countryside. We're really glad you enjoyed your stay and your walking. We try and provide ideas for all ability walkers, and also ideas of places to discover in the beacons that are less touristy but no less fantastic to visit. Having spent a great deal of our lives here we have quite an in depth knowledge of the landscape and it's secrets which we are happy to share with guests. It would be lovely to see you again. Warmest regards Mike &Caroline

Lovely place, lovely people. We found it easily. We were made to feel very welcome. We had a little tour and saw the animals, the room was a good size and everything was clean and worked well. Breakfast was delicious.

Hello Simon K, thank you for the very kind review, it's always great to know when we are appreciated. You were indeed privileged to see the 7 new goslings as Gladys & Gaddafi are very protective parents. Good luck with your own new arrival and your house move in the next few weeks. Warmest regards Mike & Caroline
