What was really amazing that this small and very elegant inn was once a farm. The property dates back centuries, but the amenities are all 21st.
We stayed in the stand-alone cottage in the back corner of the property, and were delighted with it, as it had a barrel shaped soaking tub (when you see it, it's a reminder of the Mother Goose rhyme- rub-a-dub dub, three men in a tub- though it actually only holds 1-2 persons comfortably) and a huge fireplace with all the wood, kindling, and starter logs provided for the entire stay. Both the soaking tub and fireplace were a godsend after spending 8 hours hiking the difficult Besseggen Ridge trail in Jotunheimen NP.
Breakfast was a beautifully presented Norwegian smorgasbord. We had wanted to have dinner here on the 2nd of our 2 nights' stay- as it looked beautiful also, but after the hike, just caught something quick in Lom, and were just too wiped out to go to the dining room.
What I would like to mention is the wonderful hiker's lunch Eric packed for us and delivered to our room, the evening before. I had read that box lunches were available on the website-but the lunch was a true delight. First off, we had to leave at 5:00 a.m. and drive to Jotunheimen to catch the first boat to the trailhead of Besseggen. Which meant missing breakfast. Eric thoughtfully packed both breakfast sandwiches, plus 4 other sandwiches, a liter of OJ, and whole fruits in a cooler bag with an ice pack in it. He also provided a hot pot and morning coffee to have before setting out. The hike ended up being much more demanding than expected, and we ended up consuming everything he had provided-plus our own snacks.
A memorable 2-night stay!
