Stayed here in April for a night. We stayed in an executive suite and it was AMAZING. The BED WAS THE MOST COMFORTABLE BED EVER. The bathroom was HUGE. Staff were really nice and friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. We had breakfast the following morning and again delicious.

arrived in hotel at 8pm on a thursday evening, and checked in, given a room on 3rd floor, when i opened the door to the room the 1st thing I noticed was the dreadful load traffic noise, went back down to reception and said not a hope could I sleep in that room and I wanted to be moved to the other side of the hotel which would be quieter. I was giving room 152, which was a very nice big room, no traffic noise and was happy out. Turned on TV to chill out to discover that BBC 1, ITV & BCC 24 were not working, rang reception in case it was a connection fault but they never came back to me. One thing I noticed was it must be a family room as there was a interconnecting door to the next room, well about 11pm I could hear every and I mean every single word the gentleman was saying next door (he was on the phone), it was like he was standing in my room, it got so bad I had to ring his room and explain that I could hear everything he was saying. Got up in the morning for breakfast which I must say was horrible, the scrambled eggs had no taste, the orange juice (NOT fresh) seemed to be off, and really was not up to a 4* standard. I usually stay in the Park House Hotel in Eyre Square which is fantastic and will be returning to them again.

We stayed at the Clayton for one night in March. Staff were efficient and polite when we checked in and the room was lovely, clean and exactly what we were looking for for a quiet night away.

Later on when we came down for a drink we found that there was a formal function on which had taken over the main bar, we felt completely underdressed and after 1 drink(from incredibly rude barstaff) we returned to our room, again we didn't mind this too much as we were away for a quiet night. At 12am the band started downstairs in the ballroom and we found that our room was directly over the ballroom. For a purpose built hotel we found it unbelievable that there was so much noise and rang reception who told us that the music would not stop until 2am, so awake we were until 2am being able to hear everyword of every song. Great...time for sleep, we were awoken at 4am, and again at half 4 by rowdy revellers roaring outside our door.

After a poor nights sleep we went to breakfast and were hearded around like cattle by an incredibly rude hostess.

When we checked out my partner complained about the service and the noise etc and said she did not expect this from such a high quality hotel. To be fair to the hotel they apologised and said they don't normally place guests who are not part of a function in the rooms overhead the ballroom and offered us an executive suite free of charge and they'd send out the details. Of course we were elated(as was one of the remaining drunks in the lobby as he was still dancing in his tux) and felt it completely compensated for the poor service and the noise the night before.

Of course we haven't heard from them since. I'm not sure if i'd have preferred them to tell us that they didn't really care whether we had a crap stay or not because that's what they were obviously thinking.

Please note: there were couples on either side of us complaining as well. One couple complained that someone actually came into the room in the middle of the night....

Stayed in Clayton for 12 nights (2 nights x 6 weeks). Can't speak highly enough of our experience. The staff were all Irish, and couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Nothing was trouble!

The food, especially the fish, was excellent.
The rooms were bright & well heated, with everything you could need supplied.

A bit out of the way for Galway city, but with parking worth it.
Very close to the Galway Clinic. They even provided a "courtesy car" to bring us there and back! If you were delayed, you still got your breakfast with no fuss.
Would highly recommend. Looking forward to returning.

I had to stay last minute in Galway recently and booked into the clayton. They only had their "executive rooms" left, and though I was a bit reluctant, my other choice of hotel was full. As it turns out it was a lucky break as it must be the most underpriced executive room in the country.
Getting to the hotel was fairly easy, but it could be signposted better. I was made very welcome at the reception by a young girl who was very efficient and friendly. My room was on the top floor(although its only a four storey building) but access on the lift was by room key which is secure. The room was amazing... very spacious, a nice big tv that swivels so you can watch it in the bed or in the living area (on the other side is a large mirror). The tv system had a music library which is a very nice touch. The bathroom was very big, with a seperate shower and bath, and the shower itself is probably the biggest I have ever used. And yes, like the review here, the beds are very comfortable.

I had a drink in the bar after settling into my room and sat up at the bar counter with a paper. As it turned out I spent my time chatting with the bar tender for the evening in between his service to other customers. He was the cliche young man working his way through college, but I very much enjoyed genuine conversation rather than the usual chit chat from a bar tender.

I had breakfast in the morning in the restaurant. There was a great selection for a fry up and platters of cheese, cold fish/meats and the usual cereals. The kindest lady served me as if I were a guest in her house, almost informal, but very friendly.

I didnt get to see much more of the hotel, in terms of value for money for the room and the genuine service from my arrival until checkout I will definitely be staying here next time I am in Galway!
