I had to stay last minute in Galway recently and booked into the clayton. They only had their "executive rooms" left, and though I was a bit reluctant, my other choice of hotel was full. As it turns out it was a lucky break as it must be the most underpriced executive room in the country.
Getting to the hotel was fairly easy, but it could be signposted better. I was made very welcome at the reception by a young girl who was very efficient and friendly. My room was on the top floor(although its only a four storey building) but access on the lift was by room key which is secure. The room was amazing... very spacious, a nice big tv that swivels so you can watch it in the bed or in the living area (on the other side is a large mirror). The tv system had a music library which is a very nice touch. The bathroom was very big, with a seperate shower and bath, and the shower itself is probably the biggest I have ever used. And yes, like the review here, the beds are very comfortable.
I had a drink in the bar after settling into my room and sat up at the bar counter with a paper. As it turned out I spent my time chatting with the bar tender for the evening in between his service to other customers. He was the cliche young man working his way through college, but I very much enjoyed genuine conversation rather than the usual chit chat from a bar tender.
I had breakfast in the morning in the restaurant. There was a great selection for a fry up and platters of cheese, cold fish/meats and the usual cereals. The kindest lady served me as if I were a guest in her house, almost informal, but very friendly.
I didnt get to see much more of the hotel, in terms of value for money for the room and the genuine service from my arrival until checkout I will definitely be staying here next time I am in Galway!
