Me and my partner travelled to Marina di Torre del Lago without any idea what to expect. But after a few days we were very pleasantly surprised by the friendly atmosphere of the place.
And this has to be mentioned especially about Hotel Turandot :). The hotel is perfectly situated, just a few steps from the beach, some restaurants (Basilico Fresco is the best) and a bus stop. If you want to venture in to Viareggio or the small town of Torre del Lago, there is a bus service.

The room we got was clean, comfortable and adequate in size. Some might consider the bathroom to be on the small side since the shower has to be "folded out" in a somewhat unusual way, but it was no problem for us.

We did however had some problems getting hot water in the shower a few nights, but this was quickly sorted out by the very nice and friendly staff who do their best to help you even if you're not quite comfortable with the italian language (as we were). And, as mentioned before by another reviewer, the woman in the reception (who's name I cannot recall unfortunately) speaks very good english.

The breakfast is of the continental variety with some italian "twists" and very good. If you have a car with you, the parking space of the hotel is excellent, with good security by an electric gate.
On that note, renting a car is strongly recommended! Toscana and the vicinity of the marina offers so much to see and the roads are easy to drive on (the bad reputation of italian drivers do not apply in Toscana) even if the multitude of signs can sometimes be bewildering.
At the back of the hotel is a well maintained garden (a pool there would have been great!) where guests can relax if they want.

On the top of the hotel is a nice sun terrace where you can relax, enjoy the view or work on your suntan (however the bar up there is closed) and there are also comfortable chairs to relax in on a front terrace, right next to the lively street leading into the marina.
Be on the lookout for cyclists when crossing the streets however, there are MANY of them about!

So even though, as non-native italians with limited knowledge of the italian language, we felt like fish out of water sometimes in this very italian beach town, we had a very enjoyable stay and the hotel was our haven since it was comfortable, friendly and a very nice place to stay in :).
