“4 out of 5”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

The Hotel has a very good website (http://www.strathblanecountryhouse.co.uk) so there's no need for me to go into great detail here.

We recently spent a night at the Hotel, incl evening meal and breakfast.

STAFF
We found them professional, polite and friendly.

HOTEL INTERIOR
Clean and tidy. Umbrellas and wellington boots are provided should you need them.
Reception is usually not manned so, unless you're seen, you have to find a member of staff, many of whom seem to multi-skill but they do attend immediately. The bar area is cosy, with a real fire.

ROOM
Spacious with high ceilings but warm and cosy. Big bed, good flat screen TV, coffee/tea making facilities, easy chairs, iron and ironing board provided.

FOOD AND DRINK.
You might find bar prices a bit on the high side and the range of beers isn't great. Restaurant service, quality and selection of food and ambience is all very good.

SUGGESTIONS
I would recommend this hotel and would suggest, to make it even better, the proprietors look at tidying the small flower beds at the front, providing ashtrays at the front doors, cleaning exterior blinds, painting high-level outside paintwork and fitting thermostats to room radiators to make temperature control a little easier.

My wife and I should not complain as this was the ovenight stay plus dinner was a Christmas gift but felt it only fair to other would be guests.
We stayed at the hotel on night of 25th January 2013 and arrived after a long journey through the snow. Our first point was that the steps had not been cleared of snow and we're quite slippy.
Anyway, no one at reception as the same young man was also the barman out of sight of reception.
Once we got did get the key, found the room to be spacious, clean and well appointed although the mirror was out of range of the hair dryer.
On going for dinner found that the same young man was also now acting as receptionist, barman and serving table in the dining room - only 2 members of staff on duty and a full house.
Dinner was adequate but would have grudged paying the £20.95 (as I say it was a gift to us).
On going back to our room found that we could not get in as we have clicked the Yale lock and we only had a 'normal' key for the second lock. One of the young men did give as a key from a master set (think they were the cleaners) and was advised that the lock were being changed and we shouldn't have clicked the Yale lock (why not just give us both keys!!).
Slept very well in comfortable bed and next morning went doen for breakfast at 8:45. However, same as previous night only 2 members of staff on duty. Most guests like us waited around 45 minutes between cereal and main course (bacon, eggs etc) and toast did eventaully arrive (2 slices). Tea and coffee was obtained from urns so no issue there.
Overall comfortable surroundings and good quality rooms and very friendly staff but let down by lack of staff and quality of food.
Would we return and pay ourselves? Jury is still out.

Room Tip: Ask if function is taking palce and if so request room not above function suite.

My husband bought a 2-night dinner, bed and breakfast deal for us as a surprise gift for my Christmas. Wasn't sure about the place on arrival but the welcome by the receptionist was so nice that my spirits rose immediately. Our room was brilliant - huge and had TWO armchairs! So often one of us has to make do with sitting on the bed the whole stay anywhere else. And the bed was huge and very comfortable! In the lounge and dining room Roddy couldn't have served us any better - he was so nice and attentive. The food was lovely at both dinner and breakfast - great to get a freshly cooked breakfast and not a dried out buffet offering. On our second evening we had a minor glitch with the heating in our room - Roddy sorted it out immediately and ensured that we had alternative heating should the central heating not come back on again - it did. He and all the staff we dealt with are a real credit to the hotel and their employers. Yes, there were little bits and pieces which gave the hotel a very slight air of being a bit tired but nothing that a little TLC can't sort out and it most certainly didn't spoil our enjoyment of our stay - we can both thoroughly recommend the hotel to anyone considering staing there.

Room Tip: Room 11 is huge and the bed super kingsize and very comfortable. The bathroom has a radiator too.

Over night stay that turned out better than I expected.Warm welcome and staff very helpfull when looking for directions. Upgraded as hotel was full , put in the honeymoom suite which was excellent. Evening meal and breakfast was worth the money, served breakfast and not just a buffet style. Cosy bar with open fire. Nice just to get away and chill .

Room Tip: Honey moon suite had a great view of the hills. No problem with noise, sleep disturbed due to strang...

We were given an overnight stay at Strathblane Country House as a xmas present. It included a room, 2 course meal and a discount on wine/champagne should we choose to drink it at the meal.

Upon arrival check in took a few mins as people were constantly calling to book their deals. At first glance I thought the place looked like it could do with a bit of a freshen up.....some things like signs on the desks ect and the walls were looking a bit tired.

We were given our room key and I thought the same about the room, although clean....rather dated, and could be doing with a lick of paint.

We went downstairs and had a drink in front of the big coal fire, this was brilliant....we even got to meet 'Squeak' the cat who lives in the house. I got chatting to one of the staff (Young with blonde hair) and he was lovely.....we immeadiatly settled right in and in this part of the house everything was comfortable and not as tired looking as the room we were in (Room 4)

We went down for dinner and sat in front of the fire again while we waited to be seated, we were given menu's to look over again and had drinks. It was at this point the service really came into its own...,we went for dinner, which was absolutely fantastic, some of the best food I've had in a while and the staff could not have been nicer. Everything was so efficient as well.

Afterwards, we were totally stuffed from our meal, so we sat downstairs again while other guests chatted around the fire......we headed up to bed after this and had a sound sleep. In the morning, we had breakfast and once again....the food could not be faulted in any way.

I had my reservations about Strathblane when I first checked in, but I will honestly say that the service and quality of everything else blew those out the window. I would go back to stay in a minute and would definetley consider purchasing the deal should I see it again.

I've given the review 4/5....if it hadnt been for the room being so outdated then I would have certainly given full marks.

What a fantastic find! My husband and I stayed here on a deal for dinner, bed and breakfast and the hotel exceeeded our expectations. Everything was perfect. The room was spotless and the evening meal and breakfast first class. We have stayed in some of the best hotels in the world but the cosy, homely atmosphere at Strathblane was superb. We'll be back.
