On the website I used to book the hotel, the impression was that this is an old country style hotel with brand new wings added which is quite a common feature of country house type hotels these days. However, the reality of this hotel (which was confirmed to me by the duty manager) is that it is a conference centre which is selling spare capacity at the weekend, even the reception is in a brand new building (not the old house) and is more reminiscent of an office block. It seems to work fine for large corporate functions and weddings but is definitely not a place for couples who want to spend quiet evenings in the hotel's bar and restaurant. The smallest tables available in the restaurant were for eight people. The duty Manager advised me that I should have read the website properly as it is clear that it is a conference centre and that therefore I shouldn't have expected cosy tables for two! I had read previous reviews on tripadvisor but stopped at the first few which were all fantastic, when I read further down I found more relevant reviews. Despite paying a premium for a superior room, our room was standard and only set up for one person ie one plastic cup in the bathroom and one set of towels! As stated by other reviewers, the rooms are a long way from reception and our room telephone wasn't working. When my husband made the long journey back to reception to complain that the room wasn't prepared properly, they sent room service to me with one wine glass! I explained we wanted two water glasses so she then returned with one extra tea mug and an additional wine glass. A previous reviewer had commented on the range of breakfast, this was no different to any other hotel I had stayed in. A staff do not monitor usage and a couple of the dishes were stone cold and sauce bottles empty. On two occasions I had to advise the pleasant lady on the restaurant reception desk of problems with the breakfast. On the positive side all the issues I raised with her and the duty manager were addressed the next day. However, when my husband went for his early morning swim at 8.30 am the dirty towel bins were still there from the day before and there were no clean towels and there were discarded used plasters on the floor in the changing rooms. As the deputy Manager had pointed out to me, it does say it is a conference centre but many hotels also say that these days but they are firstly hotels and secondly conference centres, in this case, it is the reverse. The gates announce Hayley Conference Centre they do not say Beaumont House Hotel.
