“"A very friendly place to stay"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

My wife and i stayed here for one night, Steve the manager checked us in and even helped us to our room with our luggage. The room was very clean, as was the bathroom. My wife has two criteria for a stay away from home... the bathroom has to be spotless and the bed has to have a good matress, pillows and duvet. She passed them all with flying colours. AMAZING !!!!! The bar area was very relaxed and good for a chillout, the bar staff were friendly and attentive. The next morning we had a lovely full English breakfast made by Steve, (chef on holiday) and was served by his friendly and attentive wife, Julie. Between the two of them and his bar staff we were made very welcome. We would highly recommend a stay here as its central in Heswall. We were going to Heswall hall for a 50th birthday party and it was litterally a stones throw away, there are lovely walks around the area as well.

My friend and I stayed here recently for one night whilst in town for a friend's birthday. We were really impressed with the hotel and would definitely come back again should we find ourselves in the area (invited back to another party!)

The room was very large and comfortable, clean and warm. Plenty of room for us to get ready and try on all 8 of the outfits we'd brought! The bed was really comfy, the water plentiful and hot and the tv got good clear reception and was comfortably positioned to watch in bed (very important the next morning when lying hungover in bed!) We unfortunately missed the breakfast although the really kind hotel staff did offer to prepare us something separately, which we declined (again, hangover!). We mentioned that we'd like to feed the ducks (we were going into Liverpool) and they gave us a loaf of bread, which was so lovely of them!

The staff were absolutely fantastic, very friendly, helpful and accommodating, very keen to give good local information and nothing seemed too much trouble even carrying our heavy bags from our room, down the stairs, out to the car park - not something that would happen in most hotels by the manager!

I even managed to leave my debit card in the room after check out, and was contacted shortly afterwards by the manager who offered to post it out to me.We went and collected it later that day and it had been kept safe until then - brilliant customer service.

We also ate in their tapas restaurant, which was tasty and reasonably priced, though I was slightly disappointed that normal rice was used rather than paella rice in the paella.

Overall,we had a thoroughly positive experience, and it was such great value for money, we'd happily return.

Checked in last night, met a gentleman called Steve, who also happened to be the manager. He was lovely, we were going to a wedding reception & he gave us the keys to the front door incase we were home late & booked us a cab. Couldn't do enough for us, the room to our surprise after some of the reviews on here was spotlessly clean, plenty of tea & coffee milk etc. bathroom was shining. Got home late lovely dark curtains & lovely snug & warm hotel room, bed was very comfortable & so quiet. I met the monster Tony, the breakfast chef who everyone was describing as awful & honestly you couldn't have met a nicer guy! Breakfast was made fresh, so it was hot & it was lovely, I was sooo full I couldn't finish it all. There was also a choice of cereal etc, wouldn't listen to the reviews on here, this hotel was excellent for the price & we would definitely stay again, oh and barmaid who had lived in Liverpool during uni was also very nice & helpful!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 5, so wouldn't know about the others. Everything was there that you could poss...

I had the pleasure of a two week stay at the Jug & Bottle June 2012. The room was bright and clean thanks to Sylvia & Rachel and the breakfast included was amazing, especially the coffee, thanks to Tony. The manager, Gary took care of all needs and concerns. I would highly recommend a stay at The Jug & Bottle. I will definitely be back next year.

My wife and I stayed in room 1 (a twin room) for 2 nights paying £100 for 2 nights B&B (17 & 18 July). I was favourably impressed as we arrived - it was far nicer than I had anticipated as it has significant, although by no means extensive, well maintained grounds.
Check-in was friendly and efficient.
Our room was well sized, very bright, clean and nicely decorated and furnished. The flat screen TV (with full Freeview channels) was a bit small (why, oh why, do hotels penny pinch on this? - a larger screen model costs very little more). The room was fitted with an open-plan style wardrobe/storage unit which works very well. Adequate coffee etc. I was pleased to see 2 sachets of drinking chocolate - almost invariably, even in a room for 2 people, only 1 sachet is supplied in most establishments. The beds were very comfortable. Disappointingly, the windows could not be opened (painted shut) which was a pity as the room atmosphere was a tad stuffy on the first night.
The modern bathroom has a nice shower cubicle (but shower pressure only just adequate). Plenty of hot water. Individual complimentary shower gel and shampoo bottles and soap tablets. Just one thing - there is a window above the wash-basin so the mirror is to one side. Unfortunately that puts it right over the toilet, making shaving that much more tricky. Good supply of fluffy towels.
We ate in the restaurant the first evening. Alas (for me) they only offer tapas based meals. To me, tapas are snacks you eat in a bar. Tapas restaurants are a crazy notion. But that's me. So I cannot fairly judge how good or otherwise it was. However, there are a number of restaurants nearby just a few minutes walk away. There was one very good guest ale on offer. Restaurant service was excellent.
We discovered there was a bright outdoor secority light immediately outside our bedroom window. The curtains were not big enough to mask it. It didn't give us a problem but others may disapprove. At this time of year it appears to be switched on 9.30pm to midnight.
Breakfast was very good. Everything freshly cooked to order. The first morning we could help ourselves to cereal but we had to ask the next morning. Orange juice (the only juice available) was served at the table. I found the fried eggs particularly tasty.
When we returned to the room later in the day we found everything used had been replenished.
Notwithstanding the minor opportunites for improvement I have noted, I would strongly recommend the Jug & Bottle. It's a pleasant pub/hotel with very friendly staff and it's excellent value.

We stayed at the J&B for 2 nights to attend a wedding and chose this from a list of local accommodation based initially on the excellent price, but we ended up with much more than value for money! The staff are very helpful & friendly, and where the rooms may not be massive, they are spotless and well decorated with everything in the right place! We didn't get chance to try the tapas restaurant (tho the menu looked yummy), but we tested the bar which is still traditional and has a great atmosphere. Room rate included any variation on Full English that you could hope for, and has PROPER coffee (with free refills)!! Just wish we had an excuse to go back! (oh, and a really, really, really nice man let us in at 04:00 as we were struggling with the front door key - oops! xx)

Returning to UK fro trip to Spain, we needed overnight accommodation on the Wirral as we were to attend a friends birthday bash nearby .Booked the Jug and Bottle because it offered breakfast ( very good with excellent coffee) at the same price as room only at a nearby hotel. This is an old building with character, over a pub and Tapas bar. We enjoyed a large clean and comfortable room with views over the garden and Wirral estuary; the beds were excellent. The en-suite had recently been upgraded to a high standard. Telephoning from the airport we arranged an early check in without any problems.
The staff were friendly and helpful as was the Spanish guy looking after breakfast. We didn't use the pub, but it appeared lively with a good atmosphere. Overall, great value for money.
