We used this hotel because it looked great and was great value when booking via a comparison sight. It is in a picturesque location with ample parking, free wifi and nice clean rooms. The place is geared up as a wedding venue so there are plenty of midweek deals to be had! We used this hotel as a base for travelling to Chessington World of Adventures some 8 miles away. Although only being 8 miles from Chessington it took nearly 30 minutes to get there because of the types of roads between the two locations. However, being away from the park and its excitable 'adventurers', gave a good contrasting peace and quiet and the end of the busy fun packed day.
The car park is not best suited for vehicles with low bumpers or skirts etc. Despite taking great care the front of my car could be heard scraping on the tarmac as we entered the car park.
The communal areas that we saw were nice enough and gave that 'manor' atmosphere. The stairway to the first floor is plenty wide enough but the stairway from first to second floor is very narrow. Consider asking for a ground floor room if available if disabled because the only elevator we saw was a service elevator.
The double bed in the room we were in was a little small and this had an a little impact on sleep but I can't say if all the beds are the same size. Our bed at home is a standard double and this bed was narrower than that.
Breakfast wasn't included in the price of the hotel but priced at £10pp and can be discounted to £7.50 if pre-booked on arrival. Breakfast is a combination of Full English buffet and cook to order option such as omelettes etc. The variety was outstanding and if you go early enough so is the quality. We found that the eggs suffered under the halogen lights greatly and hadn't been replaced for some considerable time. The same was the case the following morning so attention had to be brought to this. Conveyor toasters are great but need to be set up correctly. On both occasions the one here was set to cremate on first pass! Burt toast, anyone?
While there we also took advantage of the bar menu. The food was fairly priced and of good quality. The staff were open to negotiation providing options not strictly on the menu. This 'flexibility' meant that we had what we wanted at the right price. Drink at the bar are at 'hotel prices' so be warned! We considered using the sit down restaurant but were simply too tired after the days travelling/'adventures'. We did look at the menu and for a three course meal for two and bottle of wine, you won't get much change out of a £80.
So to sum up. This looks like a great wedding venue or peaceful location for a midweek break. The staff are friendly, receptive and nothing is too much trouble. Let down a little by the lack of quality checking of the breakfast buffet but hopefully this should be rectified now that it's been brought to their attention. Be careful when using the car park and check the bed sizes.
I'd certainly consider staying again at the same value rate if visiting Chessington again.
Hope this helps.
