We booked the Miners for a family meal on a Saturday night. The restaurant is in a large conservatory to the rear of the cosy 'olde worlde' village pub. It was a lovely sunny evening (one of the rare ones we've had recently) and the views over the countryside were lovely.
The restaurant was full but the service was efficient with the waiting staff checking on the table at intervals without prompting. The only time the 'wheels came off' the service was when we reached our dessert course because they had run out of menus (the restaurant was at capacity with at least 2 large parties) and our desserts were also a little slow in arriving because of this.
All of the food we ordered was well cooked and presented. The cheeseboard to share was enormous offering a good variety of cheeses and is still a family talking point! The only minor gripe was the size of the portions of the sea bass meal chosen by two of our party, who were left feeling hungry after it (we didn't order starters). However the huge cheeseboard did remedy this. The fish and chips were amazing, as was the creamy seafood linguine.
We had coffees and brandies in the cosy pub, which rounded off a lovely evening.
All in all a good evening and had the desserts not been late in arrving, would have been a 'five star' experience. We will definitely be returning.
