We went to The Miners for the first time for a family celebration. The views from our table were lovely and can imagine in the summer it being even better with the light evenings. We are not sure we will rush back though. On the whole the food was ok - not excellent as it should be as reflected in the prices! Although this is a pub the prices are restaurant prices - steak is £18.95, Sea Bass £14.95, burger and chunky chips £10.95. Now I come to the "chunky" chips - I think chunky chips should be large home made style chips - not potato wedges (which I hate and would never order and these particular chip/wedges were so dry and boring - I couldn't give them away in the end!). I do like bread and oil for dipping to start with and usually there is balsamic in the oil too, but this time the oil was so cheap and nasty it was like dipping bread into my cooking oil - yuk!! On the plus side they have a small childrens menu for £3.95 - including pasta & chicken nuggets and chips (these were skinny fries, which was just as well as they didn't like my wedges either!)
As I said, the food was ok and the staff quite good, although they perhaps need a lesson in serving correctly i.e. not reaching across someone (nearly taking their ear off) to hand an extremely hot plate to someone who had to drop it on the table before it burnt her fingers. Also not to serve coffee before the desserts are brought out. In all we had a good night and might give the Miners another go, perhaps in the day time when we can sit outside and just have a sandwich.
