“Cosy venue, lovely Sunday lunch.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 weeks ago via mobile

Our daughter loves Spoof the resident terrier. We all love the Sunday lunch, great wine selection and delectable puds. The service is attentive without being intrusive and the cosy atmosphere is very welcoming.

I stayed in the King's Arms as a last resort as I couldn't find anywhere to stay in Bath. It was 25 minutes away and I was only expecting an average pub and an average pub room.

I could not have been more wrong. The King's Arms is a fabulous place to stay. The owners and staff could not have been more welcoming, the bar and restaurant were great, super beer and food, the single room was perfect.

I loved it and would recommend it to anyone.

Wonderful.

Didmarton probably doesn't have many choices. Its such a pity. Its a beautiful building. We were there for Sunday lunch, passing by chance. Thats the first problem. We arrive at 12pm and were told by the waitress that they are open but fully booked, but we could be accomodated (they mean they were doing us a favour by accomodating us) Are we not grateful?! Rare English roast beef £14, OK, rare in this case meant, no one else will do it like you. The first plate had overcooked grey beef, which i returned and no a word of apology, more like you are bothering us. The second plate had pink on the 2 slices. It was rump, therefore really tough and sinewy, needed a steak knife to cut thorough it, accompanied by Bisto gravy, what a star. I was expecting a homemade gravy, but the film and clumps still visible. Credit to them, the cabbage and carrot rings were probably prepared on site. The burgers £13 was alittle better, in that it can't possibly be under or over cooked, no one gets burgers wrong. Oh dear, burnt on one side and pink in the middle. The chips were really good though, nicely crispy, well done chef.
Oh yes, they have added the 10% service charged to the bill, for bringing food from the kitchen to your table at the beginning of your meal.
When we went on that afternoon to Westonbirt aboretum, we discovered you could have the same meal barbeque on the open grill in front of you, with a view of the wonderful forest for the same price with the entry tickets thrown in.

We stayed here for one night for our wedding anniversary. We stayed in the room with the horse mural and four poster bed featured in the picture. The room wasn't overly big, but bed very comfortable. There is was also a small room adjoining it which I think you could use for luggage and dressing, next to the bathroom. But the main draw here is the food which was excellent. A little pricey, but very nice.

Stopped here when passing through village, the sign advertising outdoor pizza oven tempted us.
Menu was limited and only 1 veggie option, pizza menu had plenty of choice. We shared a pizza with 2 different sides to accompany it, rocket and Parmesan, and hand cut chips.
The food was very tasty and good value, the drinks were abit overpriced at £4.15 a pint and we were not expecting the service charge and didn't see it on the menu, 10% so be aware.

Very nice pub with rooms. The food was lovely, the people couldn't have been nicer, there are some interesting walks nearby. Large car park, so no problem parking. Large beer garden. Quite boutique decor.
They seem to have a private dining room that would seat 15+ so that would be great for a party.
Thoroughly recommended - I'll be going back!

I was very happy to be returning to stay at the King's Arms, which unbeknowns to me had since changed hands, and was now owned by a dreaded chain. I was so disappointed to see the interior decoration of the pub has been changed to a horrible dark and dingy sludge green. The staff that were there were pleasant and helpful when asked. However, when I last stayed the place was buzzing and was a lovely place to go to for locals and tourists alike. The food was great, and the atmosphere great. This time was a different story. I had heard from friends that it had gone down hill and could see that myself. My room was one of the stable conversion rooms and was frankly like a dungeon. The walls were painted sludge green, granite and what looked like black, but couldnt see for sure as the lighting was totally inadequate (despite there being at least two overhead lights (one broken), and four or five lamps!!) Because Cotswold cottages have small windows generally, it helps to paint the walls a light colour to maximise the light inside. This had not occurred to the Cirrus Inns Ltd who now own the hotel. My spirits sank whenever I walked into the room, and tried to stay out of it as much as possible. Bathroom was light and bright and good, but could have done with some shampoo, soap and shower gel, instead of three body lotions. Tea and coffee making facilities good, but room too depressing to stay in for any longer than sleeping so didn't use them. Radiators all looked like flat screen tvs, probably very trendy in London, but not in keeping with old Cotswold cottage. Did use them though, as the room felt damp and cold (September).

I lived locally for four years and was really sad to see this once vibrant, welcoming pub/hotel now in the doldrums. Sad for the locals too, they deserve better. I used to be an interior designer and would relish the chance to come and revamp the place!!
I didnt want to complain on trip advisor, as I know this paints a bad picture, and stays on the properties page. However, I looked up their website and couldnt contact them directly as there is the minimum amount of information on the one page, and I dont have Outlook which is how you are directed to their contact page. So, I have had to resort to a public moan. This place has so much potential, and was once lovely, please Cirrus, reconsider your colour scheme!!! and bring in a manager, there didnt seem to be anyone in authority around. A bit like a ship with no captain.

Room Tip: take a torch
