“all aboard the orient express”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

We recently stayed at Glenlo Abbey Hotel and had a fantastic time.. the staff especially the bar staff Ivan and Noel just made the experience a "chill out one". The Guinness was as good as Dublin and the prices for a five star hotel didn't break the bank. The rooms were very spacious and the hotel in general extremely relaxing. My wife and I haven't been in Galway for some years now and definitely will be returning.
We would both recommend this hotel and only 10 mins out from the town enabled us to have the best of both worlds from the friendly hustle of the shoppers to the chill out on the orient express. This was a dinning experience not to be missed.......very romantic.

Room Tip: No leisure complex but Golf and plenty of walking... didn't miss no pool

Our recent stay was wonderful. Beautiful and comfortable accommodations and a very friendly and helpful staff. They took time to tell us about memorable places that we should visit during the remainder of our vacation and even drew out maps for us. The grounds are beautiful and the adjoining golf course is a great plus. We would certainly recommend this hotel to everyone who are planning on visiting Galway.

I stayed in the Glenlo Abbey hotel last weekend on business and I really enjoyed my stay.

The venue is stunning and the food is delicious ( try the steak and the fish & chips in the bar!)
Breakfast was great too and plenty of variety to choose from.

The staff were very friendly, outgoing, helpful and obliging. They are a great team and a great asset to the hotel.
Sandra, Michael, Alex, Stephanie, Urno, John and everyone else who looked after me thank you so much. I really appreciate all your hard work.

Warm regards,

Emma

A weekend away with a large group of friends was made all the more enjoyable by our choice of hotel. Everything about The Glenlo Abbey Hotel lived up to our expectations. The staff could not have been more attentive and friendly. The rooms were large, clean and comfortable. The food was excellent - breakfast was substantial and dinner menu was changed each evening and was always delicious.
Situated just outside Galway City and on the doorstep of Connemara, it allowed us a choice of interesting things to do no matter what the weather.
Michael, the manager, deserves a particular mention,as he was very much on 'top of his game' . Polite, interesting and interested and thoroughly professional, Thank you,
We will be back.

really liked this hotel, relaxing with great views, nice friendly guests, the food was ok,

old style hotel and probably needs a bit of paint in places, also as with other comments, not really five star but very nice four star

Room Tip: lake view rooms are nice

We stayed at the above hotel for a one night break in November 2012. When we arrived it was raining very heavy and the hotel was further out of Galway City than we thought. That didnt really matter on this occasion as we had travelled for 4 hours and were tired, so we were just going to stay inside the hotel.

The welcome was very goood and lots of information was provided about the area, from the staff on duty. Our room was large and well presented with a great view out over Lough Corrib.

Later on we had a drink at the bar and were made to feel very welcome by the bar staff. We then had a meal in the Pullman Restaurant which is located in a old carriage of the Orient Express which is located just outside the hotel. The decor was very good and we were served a nice meal by pleasant staff. My only problem was that I was quite cold in the carriage as it was a bad night outside and the carriage did not retain heat very well.

After the meal we made a hasty retreat inside to the warmth of the bar and had a final drink before we headed back to the room for the night. There was no tea or coffee in the room.

We got a deal on the room price which we were happy with, but if I was to pay the standard price for the room I dont think I would ( this is no reflection on the hotel or the staff, I just think it is too much money).

Michael H, Manager at Glenlo Abbey Hotel, responded to this review, November 6, 2012
Dear Guests,

Thank you for your comment’s regarding you recent visit to us here at Glenlo abbey, and for you kind comments regarding our team, the general warmness of our welcome and the quality of the food and service.
I am disappointed to hear that your enjoyment of the Pullman experience was dulled somewhat by you feeling cold in the train. I have instructed our maintenance team to look into this to see if it was an issue with thermostats or perhaps a broken heater because normally the train is a toasty little venue.
Tea and coffee is available freshly brewed on request and free of charge 24 hours a day …a point which should have been made to you upon arrival. This is a service standard here as we feel the freshness of the loose leaf tea and just ground coffee beans is well worth the few minutes wait.
On the great deal that you got be advised that we have many more great deals available on our website.
Again thank you for your review and we hope to see you back in Glenlo again soon.

Kind regards

Michael

The staff was very helpful and the location is perfect very close to Galway and not to far of a drive to Kylesmore Castle. We had a wonderful visit and would return. Connamara marble is very close as well. It is close to the city but far enough away that you are in the country (well in the middle of the golf course). Take a walk over to the Abbey that is attached as well, very worth the visit.
