“Average food, very slow service”

I have been here a couple of times (why I went again I'll never know). The menu items look interesting, however after what is a very long wait (40 minutes when the restaurant is half empty) they are ultimately disappointing. The oil used for chips is clearly very old, salads wilted, bread invariably stale / hard. I felt that I had wasted my money and felt that vising a well know burger chain would have been a more satisfactory experience, and saved me cash as well. In short low grade and overpriced. But the view is very nice, the decor is odd, even for 1970's styling.

Not sure where to start! Location is nice as had a sea view room but this hotel needs so much doing to it! Room very basic, but thankfully a clean (and comfy) bed (was a bit worried after reading other reviews!), although a stained and dusty chair in the corner and pillows that were about 1 inch thick! Brown water damage stains on the ceiling. Practically non existent shower, with not H or C letters in the bath taps. Moving taps on the sink, toilet stained with limescale, literally brown in the bottom of the pan! No excuse for this as there are plenty of cleaning products that can remove this! Blue floor tile replaced with a grey one right in the middle of the floor?? Having said all that the staff were pleasant and the breakfast was lovely. This place could be so much nicer if some money were spent on it, everything felt and looked grubby. Wouldn't recommend and I won't stay again!

My partner and I stayed in the hotel, along with friends, for a wedding. We were greeted with very friendly staff and the 24 hour bar is brilliant since we all wanted a good catch up. However, the actual room was in a pretty poor state. In need of a deep clean! The bathroom was disgusting. The toilet looked like it hasn't seen bleach or a brush in about 6 months, the bath needed a good scrub and the bath mat needed to see a washing machine. There was dust all over the top of the toilet and around the bottom of the basin and toilet. It's a real shame as all these things are so easily fixed.

The breakfast was lovely and the staff were very friendly but it just doesn't make up for the disgusting state of the rooms (my friends had the same issues).

There are so many reviews on this site that reflect our visit that I am sorry that the hotel staff who were really pleasant seem to be ignoring them and thus preventing return visits form people like us. The breakfast was really good for the size of the hotel, freshly cooked and slight variations to the menu agreed with ease. The rooms were so far below this standard. We had to ask for the bed to be remade as it was dirty on arrival, the bin in the bathroom was also still full from the previous occupant. the replaced bedding was grey and very uninviting. The whole room needed a through clean and general updating, Shame so much could be done with this hotel,

Room Tip: excellent sea views but sealed windows make fresh air impossible from second floor rooms

Shame that the staff were excellent and very helpful but the hotel was creaky and tired. First night late evening a dog was incessantly barking in the room opposite. I phoned reception and the dog owners were told to quieten the dog which to be fair they did.

Woken at 5 in the morning by people in room above banging around on the floor. Walls and ceilings were poorly soundproofed

Ensuite door wouldn't close as it was snagging on a protruding floor tile

Duo tap on sink was loose and swiveled when it shouldn't.

However. The breakfasts were good. Beds comfortable. And as previously mentioned the staff were great.

Advice. A bit of maintenance. Lick of paint. Ban dogs.

We celebrated my wife's 40th birthday in the function room at Sandgate Hotel.
Front of House Manager, Lillie, was excellent in assisting in the preparation, with her colleague Dan complimenting this excellence on the evening, ably assisted by a colleague.
The function room itself provided an ideal location for our celebration, wonderful atmosphere, sensibly furnished & comfortably accommodating about forty guests. The buffet food was very good, evidenced via appreciation showed by my guests, necessitating me ordering more chips and garlic bread, which judging by the speed at which they disappeared, were equally appreciated.
Thanks to all at Sandgate Hotel, we'll definitely see you again.

Room Tip: Function Rom excellent

Needs a thorough deep clean throughout and some re decorating looking very tired and uncared for. Room not even vacumed. Was a cheap short break with sea view balcony. Had lots of coastal walks. Lovely pub just around the corner where we had some brilliant meals.
