“Lovely peaceful stay with amazing food!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2012 via mobile

My partner booked this hotel as we was visiting family in Taunton.

Upon arrival we was checked in with no problems and staff was really friendly.

The hotel is set in a lovely and peaceful village. It was clean, staff were very helpful and it exceeded our expectations.

The highlight of our stay was our evening meal! The food was outstanding!! Big heads up to the chef.

Would definetly recommend to others, it was perfect for both myself, partner and two young children

We turned up at this hotel which unusually opened at 17:30 but not a problem and we killed some time until the doors opened.
Our host, sorry cannot remember name, was gracious and helpful and informed us he was also the chef.
The family room was clean, spacious with lovely large windows. One slight moan was that the tv was tiny and up high and a larger more up to date screen required.
Now onto the best part. The food! Our host is obviously very passionate about cooking and the meal was excellent. Everything cooked freshly from scratch, even the kids meals but done with a touch of class. It really was very good. The barman and waitress and waiter were also all excellent. I liked it. A quirky place and would definitely stay again.

I've been to this little family-run hotel several times over the last few years and can't fault it. It has a restaurant offering excellent food at reasonable prices. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms have everything you need and are clean and well-maintained.

The price for a single night only includes continental breakfast (but that suits me very well), but the full English breakast is included for longer stays, and is available on a single-night stay for a small additional fee.

I will be going back - several times, I hope.

Martock is just off the A303 and very handy as a stopping-off point on a trip to the West Country from the South East.

I was one of a party of 5 who stayed at the White Hart for 2 nights. We arrived very late and the owner Peter patiently waited 'till very late for us. He served much needed drinks to help us unwind after almost 9 hours travelling. Rooms were spacious, spotless and well equipped. Breakfasts were great and the general atmosphere was homely and friendly. We were made feel very welcome with a very relaxed manner by all staff. With only 4 hours notice (and on a Friday night when they were otherwise very busy) they served up a great Dinner for the 22 of our extended family who were in the area for the week - end. A great example of good genuine hospitality.

After a 160 miles journey, on our arrival at the White Hart on a Saturday afternoon, we were advised by one of the staff that they were shut, however, after an intervention by the owner, Peter, we were booked in and given access to our rooms.
Being initially somewhat concerned at the first greeting, we were pleasantly surprised to find a warm and friendly atmosphere with an excellent restaurant and good quality food. As we were only staying the 1 night we made good use of both the bar and the restarant.
The menu was very extensive and found it difficult to make a selection, however my wife and I opted for hand dived scallops from Lyme Bay to start followed by a fresh crab salad.
My vegetarian brother had a mushroom stroganoff and made a point to meet and thank the chef stating that it was the best mushroom stroganoff he had ever tasted.
Little surprised that we had to choose between continental or full english breakfast before we went to bed but this was a minor criticism of our overall stay.
Having family recently moved to the area I will certainly stay at the White Hart again.

First impressions can be deceiving, this hotel is a prime example!!! The outside is underwhelming but the interior has a certain rustic charm. It is warm, welcoming, and there is something very homely about it.
The restaurant used only fresh ingredients, and the meals were truly excellent. The menu offered a fair variety of choices, which also catered for a vegetarian pallet. Furthermore, the seafood (scallop, and crab), were outstanding, and the steaks were exquisite.

We went to visit family and have stayed in this lovely little pub/b&b before. The owner Peter is very welcoming and the rooms are large with en suites. They are really spacious which after staying in small B and B's in London and Leamington Spa, was great to be able to stretch out with large steps.

The hotel serves the local clientele and is quite busy and the word colourful could be used. They have a great chef and the food is of very high quality as is the breakfast if wanted a full English. You are given a key to the front door as I presume the owner does something else at some period of the day and he closes the front door late at night so you need a key to get in.

The little hotel is now getting a bit tired but is very clean and well serviced but it needs money spent on it to maintain its standatrds.

Make no mistake you will get a great welcome and enjoy the 'relaxed atmosphere'. There is good parking at the back.

Room Tip: The first floor rooms are the best. Not too many stairs
